OR Booking Clerk

Purpose:

Schedules all elective surgical cases submitted via the electronic request system. Uses current knowledge of booking protocols and computerized systems to ensure blocks are booked appropriately within the allocated block schedule. Duties include identifying available space and maximizing booking time; preparing and editing OR blocks, communicating special alerts and equipment needs to appropriate stake holders; communicates daily with surgeon’s offices to ensure clear communication with planned blocks and in the time allotted. Works closely with the Pre-Admission Booking Clerk to ensure patients are notified of planned surgical dates in a timely manner.

Education and Training:

• Graduate from a recognized Medical Office Administration course or related program
• Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

Experience:

Minimum one (1) year recent relevant experience

Knowledge/Skills

Ability:

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of medical and non-medical personnel and other clients
• Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in Medical Terminology
• Demonstrated ability to accurately type a minimum of 50 wpm
• Demonstrated excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software, e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook
• Proficiency in data entry and working knowledge of computerized patient information systems

Personal Suitability:

• Proven ability to work independently with excellent organizational skills
• Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
