Payroll Specialist
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team at STC. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing Canadian bi-weekly, hourly, and salary payroll, including unionized employees. They will ensure accuracy in payroll processing, manage government remittances, prepare reports for finance and HR, and provide excellent internal customer service.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process Canadian bi-weekly, hourly, and salary payroll, including unionized employees
- Update systems for new hires, employee changes, transfers, terminations, etc.
- Process terminations and ROEs for scheduled seasonal lay offs in accordance with the Employment Standards Act/Service Canada
- Audit payroll inputting reports and registers to ensure accuracy
- Answer specific questions from Finance & Accounting related to payroll transactions
- Prepare and distribute T2200's, T4 balancing and management, and year-end summary processing
- Manage all government and WSIB/WCB/EHT remittances
- Manage all RRSP/TFSA and Garnishment remittances
- Prepare statistical and ad hoc reports for Finance and HR as required
- Contribute to the accuracy and integrity of the payroll function within the company
- Provide excellent internal customer service
- Perform other finance duties as assigned
What You Do:
- PCP designation, full cycle Payroll experience
- Undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience (Business, Finance, Accounting)
- Minimum 2-4 years full cycle payroll experience
- Experience with handling massive seasonal employees (rehire and termination processes)
- Experience processing payroll for unionized employees
- Experience with multi-location organizations
- Proactive and ability to work independently, escalating issues when appropriate
- Ability to deal with individuals at all levels in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail
- Experience in processing payroll for seasonal and part-time workers
- Understanding of current payroll legislation and Employment Standards Act
- Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and Provincial Tax Regulations
- Customer service-centric; ability to build relationships with internal & external customers
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Always ensures confidentiality to the highest standard
- Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills
- Understanding of data recording and analysis
- Strong organization, time management, and prioritizing skills
- Ability to work remotely when necessary while managing the work environment and adhering to regular office hours
- Experience with UKG is considered an asset
Remuneration:
$65,000 - $68,000 annually
