Primary Purpose of Position


Sinopec Canada has an opportunity for a Production Engineer-In-Training to join the Production team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Production Engineering, this position is responsible for providing support to plan and coordinate delivery of short-term production targets within Sinopec Canada. This will include significant involvement in monitoring well/area production, recommending optimization opportunities, and evaluating well performance. The role will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team including Field Operations, Exploitation/Reservoir Engineers, Facility engineers and the Completions Group to ensure maximum value creation from our well and assets.


The Production Engineer-In-Training will be based in Sinopec Canada’s Calgary, Alberta head office, on a hybrid office schedule, with the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.


Roles and Responsibilities are as follows but are not limited to:


  • Accountable for designated area production performance, working closely with the field and Calgary staff to optimize production, improve reliability, and manage operating costs.
  • Help lead area well performance and optimization reviews.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and monthly forecasts for production and operating costs.
  • Support operations in monitoring Artificial Lift (pump jack, electrical submersible pump, plunger lift and gas lift) performance and make recommendations for improved performance efficiency.
  • Monitor and respond to area wells down and prepare repair requests and technical review presentations in order to gain approval for workover and optimization programs.
  • Work with production accounting and measurement teams to ensure allocations are correct.
  • Maintain measurement systems (PVR) to accurately represent area well production reporting.
  • Work closely with marketing department to effectively manage gas and liquid nominations, preparing and updating forecasts as required.
  • Work with Joint Venture team and third-party processors on operations related agreements (processing, gathering, compression) and other Joint Venture related issues.
  • Work with partners on operated and non-operated projects.
  • Maintain AER regulatory compliance and address all regulatory issues.

Position Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Experience in oil and gas facility, well and gas gathering system operations is considered an asset.
  • A working knowledge of all types of artificial lift design, selection, installation, and operation.
  • Measurement system (SCADA and PVR) experience.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft applications, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Comfortable presenting projects and ideas (MS PowerPoint) to management to gain support and approval.
  • Strong ability to manage workload and meet timelines with always changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills demonstrating a detailed and efficient work style.
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives with designated timeframes and take accountability for successful execution with with supervision and support.
  • High level of integrity in all actions, complying with and promoting the company’s core values, a respectful work environment, and aligning with the code of business conduct.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand and work well in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrates Sinopec Canada’s key competencies including proven ability to drive the business, work together, and lead effectively.

Qualifications


  • Completion of Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of oil and gas-related experience, ideally in production engineering or operations.
  • APEGA P.Eng. or E.I.T member in good standing is required.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
