POSITION TITLE: Kitchen Production Cook (Full-Time)
LOCATION: Village Kitchen (111 Finchdene Square, Scarborough, Ontario)
TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Production Manager/ Executive Chef
Scope
The Kitchen Production Cook works in our production facility located at 111 Finchdene Square in Scarborough, Ontario. This role is responsible for assisting in the production of high-quality, made-from-scratch ‘meat-free’ food products and preserves in a precise and efficient manner.
You pride yourself on your attention to detail and ability to thrive in a high-volume production facility as part of a production team. Your work ethic, organization, time management, and ability to work well with others combined with your culinary passions make you the perfect candidate for this position.
Role Requirements
- Certificate in culinary arts or a related area from a college or technical school
- Good understanding of production cooking techniques with preserving experience a definite asset
- Available to work weekdays with a 7:00 am daily start
- Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene & appearance.
- Maintains and supports a clean and safe work-space environment
- Can endure medium to high levels of physical exertion (standing, bending, lifting)
- Kitchen equipment familiarity and handling (knives, measuring utensils, weigh scales, cooking stovetops, commercial kettles, ovens and other kitchen equipment, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail skills towards recipe specifications
- Food safety and knowledge
Key Responsibilities
- Answer, report and follow precise instructions from manager and chef
- Assists in set-up of kitchen and food stations by bringing in necessary food items
- Assists in cutting, marinating, precooking and portioning foods
- Cleaning workstation with proper storage / disposal of leftover food
- Assists with packaging and storage of finished product
- Maintains an organized, clean and safe working environment
- Adheres to and maintains the Village Grocers high level of service excellence
- Adhere to all provincial health and civil code regulations
- Assist with deliveries (receiving and shipping at loading dock)
- Maintaining a positive and professional approach with co-workers
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed
Working Conditions
- Inside, loud, hot, cold (in storage freezer on occasion), slippery floors, fast paced
Success Factors
- Collaborative Approach: Works well with others and enjoys being part of a cohesive team
- Communication Skills: Good written and verbal understanding of recipes and production task. Ask questions to be clear with tasks and processes
- Stamina: kitchen production staff often stand for long periods of time, ability to operate ovens for extended periods of time, and are required to lift medium to heavy objects
- Commitment: Punctual and able to work variable shifts as assigned by the department manager. Seen as a dependable person with good references
