Your opportunity:
The Acceleration Consortium (AC) at the University of Toronto (U of T) is leading a transformative shift in scientific discovery that will accelerate technology development and commercialization. The AC is a global community of academia, industry, and government that leverages the power of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, materials sciences, and high-throughput chemistry to create self-driving laboratories (SDLs), also called materials acceleration platforms (MAPs). These autonomous labs rapidly design materials and molecules needed for a sustainable, healthy, and resilient future, with applications ranging from renewable energy and consumer electronics to drugs. AC Staff Scientists will advance the infield of AI-driven autonomous discovery and develop the materials and molecules required to address society’s largest challenges, such as climate change, water pollution, and future pandemics.
The Acceleration Consortium received a $200M Canadian First Research Excellence Grant for seven years to develop self-driving labs for chemistry and materials, the largest ever grant to a Canadian University.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Acceleration Consortium, liaising with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
and under the general direction of the chair of the AC’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDI&B) Committee, this position will be responsible for (i) supporting the implementation of the AC’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) action plan; (ii) developing and implementing the AC’s EDI grants and training programs; (iii) providing EDI expertise for the AC and acting as a point of contact for AC EDI requests and questions; (iv) the collection, analysis and reporting of demographic data;  and (v) implementing other AC programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Planning and implementing project phases with a focus on EDI-related projects
-Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
-Drafting and editing training content
-Overseeing the data collection and analysis of program and demographic data
-Researching and analyzing processes, programs and services and recommending changes for improvement
-Planning and overseeing the implementation of new and/or revised business and EDI processes
-Developing components of programs and initiatives that advance strategic EDI objectives
 
Essential Qualifications:
 
-Bachelor's Degree a relevant area of study, with a focus on human rights, diversity, equity and inclusion or acceptable combination of education and experience
-Minimum five years of recent and relevant experience in project management in addressing and advancing EDI within a research-intensive, or post-secondary environment or similar complex organization.
-Experience in project management and proven ability to align work priorities and realize strategic goals
-Experience leading and supporting change initiatives
-Experience working with senior leadership team on organization-wide committees and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
-Experience in collating and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and information in order to draft reports, provide briefing materials and recommendations to a range of audiences including senior leadership
-Experience developing and delivering EDI training
-Extensive experience and knowledge of university policies and procedures and an understanding of the University’s organizational structure, including its governance
-A thorough understanding of issues related to equity and diversity; and an understanding of relevant law and policy.
-Demonstrated knowledge of the concepts of equity, human rights, inclusion, and diversity. Working knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other relevant legislation
-A high level of interpersonal skills and the capacity to listen effectively and sensitively to a broad range of diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty and staff members
-The ability to conduct analysis and improve equity at an research intensive institute
-Excellent interpersonal andcommunication skills, both written and oral for the preparation of reports and making presentations
-Good facilitation skills to lead groups to productive outcomes
-Excellent organizational and project management skills
-Ability to work independently or in a team setting, with diverse individuals

USW Pay Band 13 -- $83,150 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $106,336. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
