WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Quality Control Technician will perform Quality Control testing services for aggregate production (process control) and the sales department (shipping and customer service). He/ She will lead process improvement projects to optimize product mixes and production. This position includes supervisory responsibility and the ability to direct process changes and partner with site management & sales team to maintain aggregate products within customer targets.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Sampling & Testing Production/Shipping- Sample aggregate products/soil following CBM sampling policy and safety procedures. Perform aggregate tests (gradations, physical properties) in accordance with specified test methods. Report in a timely and clear fashion the quality of products with regard to production issues (targets, causes, solutions) and shipping issues (end user requirements).
  • Data Analysis & Process Changes (Troubleshooting)- Apply statistical process control techniques to analyze production data. Recommend and direct process changes (on some equipment) to maintain process targets and ensure compliance with product targets & specifications
  • Customer Service & Understanding Requirements- Know and understand why targets are set for customer end uses and how changes will affect them. Describe product uses and obtain product samples for customers.
  • Customer Service- Assist sales personnel in customer service related to test data and product uses. Ability to resolve quality issues to maintain high level of customer satisfaction
  • Resource Analysis & Test Pitting- Assist production personnel in production trials, sampling and documenting quality for green-field sites.
  • Process Improvement- Lead process improvement projects, using effective Root Cause Analysis.
  • H&S - Ensure compliance with CBM Health & Safety Policies
  • Ready to travel to different plant sites. (80% field role)

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

  • People management, problem solving and decision-making skills, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine technical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees of the organization. Expected to be able to effectively relate test results and recommend appropriate changes in a way understood by production personnel. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing variables.
  • College Certificate in related field preferred, (Civil Engineering, Geo disciplines chemical or biological skills).
  • Fundamental knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; LIMS systems (AggQC).
  • Knowledge/Experience of aggregate processing practices, and equipment and aggregate specifications for the construction industry, (general construction, road building, concrete and hot mix asphalt technology).
  • Familiar with aggregate production, testing, construction materials and their uses (concrete, asphalt, granulars). Familiar with industry regulations (CCIL, MTO, CSA) and demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Communicate clearly and ability to work on a flexible schedule.
