Residential Services Program Supervisor
Contract Position -12 months
REPORTING:
This position reports to the Manager of Operations.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Program Supervisor will lead the effective service delivery of the residential program, while ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance Measures and the Agency’s Mission, Visions and Values. The Program Supervisor works collaboratively with his/her peers and the Manager of Operations, to plan, develop and design services to meet program need, while supporting person-centred services. The Supervisor will work with the Manager to oversee client admissions, discharges, contentious issues, and case management. Leading a team of support workers, the Supervisor is responsible to select, train, motivate, and manage direct reports, and to provide support and coordinate training and management efforts within the Supervisor’s peer group and with other service and support teams in the Agency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support to Individuals:
§ Participate in admissions and discharges.
§ Ensure that required documentation/meetings are completed by target dates.
§ Accompany individuals on appointments when required.
§ Liaise with other professionals when required.
Staff Supervision:
§ Monitor internal reporting systems, providing feedback when required.
§ Communicate regularly with the Manager
§ Participate in the establishment of rules, regulations and standards, which govern the performance of the support staff.
§ Hire, assign, schedule the work, direct, transfer and discipline support staff as required.
§ Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the work of support staff, including the introduction of new methods, facilities and equipment.
§ Provide direction, guidance and support to staff on an ongoing basis.
§ Schedule and participate in performance evaluations.
§ Complete supervisor’s accident report and submit to Human Resources Coordinator.
Compliance:
§ Work in cooperation with the Manager to ensure all MCSS compliance requirements are being met.
§ Operate and manage facilities and services efficiently and effectively in accordance with commitments, obligations and responsibilities to the people being supported.
§ Determine and establish standards and procedures for the care, welfare, safety and comfort of the people being supported.
Purchasing:
§ To complete and distribute purchase orders for day-to-day purchases.
§ Submit all invoices to the finance department ensuring all deadlines are met.
Financial:
§ Participate in financial planning.
§ Identify and evaluate financial needs for input into annual budgets.
§ Assist in the preparation of the annual budget as it pertains to the program.
Education and Professional Development:
§ Keep abreast of developments in the field by attending relevant conferences, seminars and workshops.
Health and Safety:
§ Keep abreast of developments, current legislation and changes in legislation.
§ Follow agency policies, procedures, rules and regulations regarding housekeeping, safety, security, and equipment handling.
§ Respond appropriately to any health and safety concerns and provide follow up.
§ Performs supervisory duties recognized by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and conducts oneself in a manner that promotes safe conditions and actions.
Duties and responsibilities may change on an ongoing basis, based on changes in operational needs.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge & Skills:
§ Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, coaching, support and direction to front line staff
§ Knowledge of principles, methods, practices and legislation related to social services
§ Experience managing in a unionized environment; grievance handling, collective bargaining and knowledge of labour and employee relations practices is an asset
§ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to make good judgement calls under pressure and in a dynamic environment
§ Knowledge and experience with service planning, budget preparation, program expenditure control and financial accountability
§ Tactical knowledge about compliance and quality assurance
§ Proven ability to work as a team member, as well as independently
§ Demonstrated initiative and ability to act as a change agent for programs and continuous improvement mindset
§ Ability to multitask with projects and initiatives
§ Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
§ Superior written and verbal communication skills

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· University Degree or college diploma in the social service field or related field/discipline
· Two (2) to three (3) years’ supervisory experience in a similar work environment
· Five (5) years’ of direct care experience working with persons with a developmental disability
· Standard First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
· Safety-Care certification (or willingness to obtain)
· Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and willing to use own vehicle for work purposes
· Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Screening Check
HOURS OF WORK:
§ Normally based on forty (40) hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday (days and afternoons) and participate in the on-call pager rotation.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Salary: $35.10 per hour
