The Faculty’s divisional IT team, Information & Instructional Technology (IIT) and local, departmental IT teams are a crucial source of support for faculty teaching, research and administrative operations. IIT works closely and collaboratively with institutional teams as well as local IT teams to champion and support technology initiatives as well as provide some key division wide IT services. In addition, IIT supports the technology needs for numerous departments, centers, schools and institutes including day to day computing, infrastructure fulfillment (systems, networking and data center), public web services and application development. We are a well-respected, service-oriented team that aims to deliver timely support and quality work, imperative for the smooth operation of our faculty.
Your opportunity:
Under the direction of Infrastructure Manager, Senior Systems & Web Services Administrator, the incumbent takes complete ownership of web services, and IT infrastructure related issues, and assumes responsibility for technical infrastructure activities and/or projects by providing technical support.
The Senior Systems & Web Administrator will be accountable for the tasks below:
-Supporting server installations, virtual infrastructure, complex systems and web services
-Planning and documenting systems and web services to ensure accurate detailing and to reflect the current state of hardware/software/database architecture as well as performance management.
-Measuring and monitoring systems and web services proactively to ensure stability, reliability, and security
-Installing software, performing OS updates, advising on software and hardware refresh cycle, and assisting in supporting and maintaining secure Faculty of Arts and Science web hosting infrastructure
-Fulfilling web service needs for researchers, faculty and staff Serving as a tier 2 technical resource to other IT professionals on systems related issues, and assumes responsibility for technical infrastructure activities and/or projects by providing technical leadership, and support to junior technical staff
Your responsibilities will include:
-Configuring system applications according to needs
-Monitoring the performance and integrity of servers
-Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
-Keeping well-informed on current technologies, best practices and industry standards
-Writing complex specifications based on system requirements
-Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
-Conducting risk assessment for projects
-Providing detailed analysis and recommendations on the suitability of major new technology and software systems
 
Essential Qualifications:
 
-Bachelor's degree in computer sciences or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. RHCSA, RHCA, RHCSHAC, CISSP, PMP, TOGAF, ITIL or related certifications,ITSM implementation are assets
-A minimum of five years recent and related experience working in a complex, heterogeneous computing environment
-In-depth experience working with a range of computing equipment and software including Unix/Linux and OS/X (workstations, servers including VSphere, VMWare), Windows (servers, terminal services), Internet services (email, Samba, etc.), networking and security, virtualized server
-In-depth hands-on experience with Web services solution design and implementation, Web server administration, and CMS development support
-Experience assessing and implementing best practices and security protocols to web servers
-Experience responding to audit requirements and closing audit concerns
-Experience troubleshooting and fixing issues with web services developed in WordPress Genesis framework and Drupal
-Experience installing, patching, and maintaining diverse software packages and appliances
-Experience with network-based storage solutions (e.g., NAS/SAN storage systems) and remote access technologies (e.g. Bomgar)
-Experience acting as a resource to staff on systems, web services, and IT infrastructure related issues; Support for server installations, virtual infrastructure, complex systems and web services
-Experience setting up high availability, scalable and secure load balancing environment using MaxScale
-Develop and maintain dev/test/pat/prod environments to support the application development cycle; experience monitoring and maintaining complex and technical systems performance and security
-Experience maintaining integrity and security of data backups; experience monitoring system log files for suspicious activities and takesappropriate actions
-Experience executing penetration and vulnerability testing; assess, plan, and implement fixes to close any vulnerabilities identified in the environment
-In depth knowledge and experience identifying network requirements/constraints in the delivery of systems-level resources for IIT and Faculty of Arts and Science projects
-Experience working with vendors on content management system development, designing and documenting system architecture for web services, performing end to end functional testing and managing projects end to end
-Experience creating and maintaining documentations such as Infrastructure Diagram, Technical Specification Document, Operational Support Document, Project Handover Document
-Support for server installations, virtual infrastructure, complex systems and web services

USW Pay Band 14 -- $88,290 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $112,911. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
