Scott Steel Erectors is a privately owned Canadian company that supplies and installs steel building systems for use in industrial, commercial, agricultural, recreational, and institutional applications across Canada and abroad. Founded in 1989, SSE has steadily grown over the last 40 years while taking pride in the quality of its work. Today Scott Steel Erectors is one of the largest in its field of building systems in Canada.
Job Location: Black Water is in central British Columbia, approximately 160 km southwest of Prince George and 446 km northeast of Vancouver. The Project is accessible by major highway and access/service roads.
Travel to and from the site provided by the company. This project site is a dormitory-style camp complex – Accommodation and meals are provided.
Site Superintendent – Night Shift
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise a crew of 50-70 open-shop ironworkers and/or other tradesmen
- Assign daily tasks to the workers and communicate production expectations
- Monitor and maintain good quality practices and ensure that all installations are performed according to the latest IFC drawings and specifications
- Analyze and examine activities to ensure that the most efficient and cost-effective methods and practices are being used
- Ensure project proceeds promptly and plan tasks to ensure deadlines and milestones are met
- Work with the Project Manager(s) to ensure quality standards are met
- Establish and maintain crew morale, and provide leadership and team-building
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing Company standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations
- Pre-plan the crane hoisting operation with the assistance of the Operations and/or Project Manager(s)
- Ensure tools and equipment are inspected, used properly, and secure, and that a current inventory is maintained and coordinated with the Tools & Supplies Coordinator
- Monitor the use of levels, transits and laser equipment as required to ensure quality standards of normal construction practices are met
- Ensure SSE vehicles and equipment are maintained in good condition, regularly inspected, and treated with respect
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications and maintain the latest document revisions
- Coordinate and lead the morning Tool Box Talk
- Act as a role model for the workers, providing a high level of professionalism and issuing disciplinary notices as required
- Ensure all safety requirements of both the company and the project site are being adhered to
- Immediately correct unsafe working conditions that have been reported
- Report accidents, incidents, and damage to the office within 24 hours of the occurrence
- Prepare daily, weekly, and look-ahead reports
- Update and maintain the project reporting on Procore regularly
- Maintain daily timesheets for all workers under their supervision and ensure the data is conveyed clearly and accurately to the office 48 hours prior to payroll processing
- Conduct annual performance reviews on workers from their job site
- Communicate with Project Manager(s) for progress updates and directives
- Other supervisor duties as required
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of work experience in an Site Superintendent role
- Pre-engineered building experience
- Able to read building drawings and visualize in 3D
- Strong mathematical skills, and strong communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, consultants, suppliers, and coworkers;
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, job task planning and organizational skills. Architectural or Engineering Technologist, Engineer-in-Training, or equivalent experience and aptitude
- Working knowledge of current construction practices and methodology
- Experience with Sage 300 would be an asset
- PRIMAVERA P6 EXPERIENCE AN ASSET
- Proficiency with MS Office (including Word, Excel, Visio, Project, & VP Command)
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
- Education/proficiency with CAD or BIM is considered an asset
- Previous experience with Procore is considered an asset
