Skilled Maintenance - Lead Hand

Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Skilled Maintenance person is responsible to maintain and repair the physical plant, equipment, furnishings and grounds of Cassellholme.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform corrective and preventative maintenance to ensure that machines, equipment and building systems (electrical, mechanical and plumbing) operate efficiently, and the physical condition of the facility does not deteriorate
• Carry out required repair and maintenance of rooms and other parts of the building structures including plaster, drywall and painting
• Complete systematic monthly inspections of the fire safety equipment and maintain inspection records
• Receive and distribute supplies, equipment, furnishing
• Perform ground maintenance as required

LEAD-HAND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct and record results of daily and random audits and inspections as per MOHLTC standards and Home policies; report adverse conditions noted to Facility Manager and recommend methods of repair and/or correction;
• Utilize the computerized maintenance management software program, as required
• Contact suppliers; order parts, supplies and equipment;
• Work with/accompany outside contractors and service representatives as required;
• Perform monthly testing of generator as part of emergency measures planning;
• Lead fire safety, prevention, and training programs, as required;
• Attends to reported issues with facility, equipment and property after hours per an established schedule, independently troubleshooting and determining the most effective repairs and/or materials/ required to correct the issue.

Job Type / Category

This position works within a 240 bed long-term care facility and includes an on-call rotation.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or abilities required.

• Graduate of an accredited apprenticeship/diploma program in a skilled trade
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Skilled Maintenance occupation preferred
• Working knowledge of computer applications an asset
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively and thoughtfully with residents, their families and co-workers

LICENCES:

• Certificates of Qualifications in any or more trade skills related to the noted areas of responsibility
• Ontario Class “G” driver’s license
