The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

SUPERVISOR, OPERATIONS PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Tailings and Earthworks Construction

The Supervisor, Operations Project Management, Tailings and Earthworks Construction works with a team of construction management professionals to deliver safety driven, environmentally sustainable, and consistent results in a heavy civil construction environment. They maintain direct and daily contact with contractor management and supervision. They collaborate with contractors to establish the preferred approach to tailings dam other heavy civil construction, including tried and proven methods as well as being open to considering innovative new technologies as they become available. They collaborate internally with all groups but with a specific focus on partnering with the safety and environment groups and working towards continuous improvement. The Supervisor, Operations Project Management supports, coaches, trains and creates space for the tailings, mill and operations teams to be successful.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

Leading and coordinating tailings dam and other heavy civil construction projects.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety rules and procedures.
  • Be a steward of the environment and ensure that all planned environmental protections and provisions are in place and implemented.
  • Work with the construction teams including contractor supervisors and in-house resources including field engineers, quality management groups, surveyors, soils technicians and construction planners to schedule activities and successfully execute the work.
  • Attend daily contractor toolbox meetings and regularly attend worksites.
  • Witness, note and engage with the contractor resources to promote safe, consistent and sustained results.
  • Liaise with tailings, operations and other departments to minimize impacts on production and maintenance delays.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment.
  • Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required for contractors.
  • Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future needs of Côté Gold.
  • Promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations and providing feedback and coaching.
  • Offer new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.

Area 2:

Lead safe performance excellence.

  • Drive construction sequencing towards achieving realistic and achievable baseline schedule and key performance indicator (KPIs) goals and objectives.
  • Identify, support and lead health and safety initiatives, including incident investigations.
  • Monitor and mentor contractor supervision with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Lead a solution driven approach to construction execution and proactively implement safe construction principles and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that employees are kept informed of safety, production, and cost performance data, to encourage growth and participation in potential improvements to each KPI.
  • Continually seek to improve your skills as a Supervisor.
  • Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
  • Ensure problems, unsafe work practices and inefficiencies are stopped and corrected, and the findings are shared with others.
  • Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Consider risk along the five dimensions (throughput, time, quality, sustainability and cost).

Area 3:

Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the contractors, supervisor, equipment operators and stakeholders to ensure that the business and mine/mill plan objectives are met.
  • Coordinate with other team members on site to meet scheduled deliverables.
  • Help mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
  • Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
  • Ensure shift cross over logs are accurate and complete.
Qualifications


Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • College diploma or university degree in a related field is considered an asset.
  • Ministry Supervisor Training is considered an asset.

Work experience - Nature & Length

  • A minimum of 7 years of related heavy civil or industrial construction work experience.
  • 3 years or more of technical or supervisory experience is highly desirable, but not essential.

Additional qualifications - Competency requirements

  • Proficient in construction planning and management.
  • Understand and track construction KPI’s and Labour, Equipment, Materials (LEM’s) management.
  • Previous exposure to contractor management in a tailings construction setting is highly desirable, but not essential.
  • Previous exposure to automated or supervisory controls in a mill is highly desirable, but not essential.
    • Previous exposure to lean and multi-disciplinary team leadership is desirable, but not essential.
    • Digital literacy and experience with maintenance management systems (Oracle), is desirable, but not essential.
    • Knowledge and experience in an open pit gold mining environment is highly desirable.
    • Ability to make effective, intuitive decisions under pressure.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage and empower multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Proven communication skills, both verbal, written and non-verbal.
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Self-motivated individual who is driven to find solutions and strive for continuous improvement in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
