POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Department Manager of Health, Safety, Security, Emergency Response and Training, the Superintendent, Training and Development will proactively lead the development, implementation and review of the Company’s Training and Development strategy which will include the procedures, standards, policies and practices to ensure the health and safety training objectives are in compliance with Provincial and Federal regulations.
As this is a startup operation, the successful candidate must have a strong focus on employee and system development. The initial focus of this role is to develop, review and update Argonaut’s learning management system (LMS).
MAGINO MINE:
Argonaut Gold is a Canadian-based gold producer with a portfolio of operations in North America. Focused on becoming a low-cost, mid-tier gold producer, the Company’s newest gold mine, Magino is expected to become Argonaut’s largest and lowest cost mine. Commercial production at Magino has been achieved, which is the first step in transforming the Company as it enters a pivotal growth stage. The Company also has three additional operating mines including the Florida Canyon mine in Nevada, USA, where it is pursuing potential for redevelopment and additional growth, La Colorada mine in Sonora, Mexico and San Agustin mine in Durango, Mexico.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews existing training programs and systems to develop processes, suggests enhancements or modifications to improve engagement, learning, and retention and/or to meet the changing needs of the organization.
- Ensures that training materials and programs are current, accurate, and effective within the Argonaut LMS.
- Introduce new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the province, organization and/or industry.
- Develop training to support operational and industry changes.
- Full accountability for progression of hourly operators.
- Conducts or facilitates on site and virtual training sessions.
- Collaborates with vendors and third-party training providers to arrange employee registration for and participation in external training programs.
- Ensures that training milestones and goals are met while adhering to the approved training budget.
- Monitor and report on training performance of the mine and provide recommendations for enhancements and improvements.
- Work collaboratively with the site leadership team to support department specific safety training needs.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports.
- Liaise with key contractors, regulatory bodies and industry professionals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree/Diploma in Health and Safety Management or Education.
- G Class Driver’s License (Required).
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role in mining/heavy industry with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Train the trainer experience is required.
- Experience developing progression matrix for hourly operators.
- Demonstrated effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and team building skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse workforce.
- Proven competency, knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety standards and Training and Assessment methods and techniques to Canadian and Ontario Mining and MTCU standards and regulations. Ontario experience is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is a requirement.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong time management skills with ability to continually prioritize workload and respond to top priorities with a sense of urgency.
- Detail-oriented with both the ambition and willingness to dive into the details necessary to accomplish responsibilities and solve problems.
- Effective leadership and the ability to build a strong team culture.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven track record of quality work and execution of projects and plans.
- Must be field oriented and able to work in mines and exploration environments.
- Degree of assertiveness with ability to give direction.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometers northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on and 7 days off (12-hour days).
- Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
