Utility Operator

Duration: 8-12 months

Starting Salary: $29.21 / hour

As a Temporary Utility Operator at ATCO Gas, you will be an integral part of our team, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our natural gas utility systems. This role involves a variety of field and service activities that are fundamental to our operations.

What You Get to Do:

• Assist in the installation and maintenance of natural gas utility systems.
• Support the repair of the underground Natural Gas Distribution System.
• Engage in field tasks like hand digging, shoveling, backfilling, and site cleanup.
• Operate vehicles (up to 2 tons), equipment, and small tools.
• Perform meter set maintenance, service shut-offs, and line locating.
• Conduct leak surveys to identify potential underground and aboveground leaks.
• Lift objects weighing up to 50lbs.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Related experience in the upstream gas utility system, meter reading and AMR devices is desirable.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to the gas distribution system is desirable.
• Familiarity with various regulatory codes governing the natural gas industry is desirable.
• Must have a valid Alberta Class “5” driver’s license.
• Ability to interpret plans, working drawings and material specification is desirable.
• Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and dexterity in the use of tools and equipment.
• May be required to work shift work in operations when necessary and may be called out to assist in emergencies on a 24 hour basis.
• Must be prepared to work in all types of weather.
