As the first point of contact for visitors to Hinton Alberta, you have the opportunity to engage visitors in conversations that increase their knowledge about the amazing authentic experiences in breathtaking landscapes that Alberta has to offer.
We are seeking individuals that are personable, customer service oriented, resourceful, proactive and enthusiastic about promoting Hinton Alberta. Excellent interpersonal, communication, sales and promotional skills are required for success in this position.

Visitor Service Information Counselors (3)
Qualifications:
Visitor Information Centre staff must be proactive and able to recall/search Alberta information quickly and be comfortable dealing with people. Having well-honed listening and questioning skills are essential, in order to establish credibility in your interactions with travelers.
All candidates must have a high school education and at least one year of customer service experience. Preference will be given to candidates with some post-secondary education in tourism, hospitality and/or a related field. Knowledge of a second language and experience with Alberta’s tourism industry and tourism destinations are considered assets. Equivalencies will be considered. Expertise with internet based research, social media channels, Google Sheet, Google Docs and Canva essential.
First Aid Certification including AED is required.
● Post-secondary student (either attended full-time the previous year or are attending full time this upcoming academic year).
● Experience in tourism with a focus of Visitor Services preferred.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Basic office skills, computer literacy, and data entry.
● Able to work well independently and within a small team.
● High degree of sensitivity in dealing with the public.
● Ability to show initiative and meet deadlines.
● Able to work flexible hours including evening, weekends and statutory holidays.
● A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is preferred.
● Successful candidate must have up to date First Aid Certification
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Provide exceptional customized trip planning and customer service to visitors traveling to Hinton and the surrounding areas.
● Proactively promote attractions, events, experiences and destinations across the province, including assisting travelers with booking accommodations and activities.
● Influence visitors to do more and extend their length of stay in Hinton by matching their interests and needs to Hinton’s attractions, experiences and destinations.
● Distribute information and essential travel tips.
● Complete administrative tasks such as preparing reports, collecting and entering visitor statistics, and daily reconciliations.
● Assisting visitors in a professional, prompt and courteous manner.
● Answering enquiries by phone, online, and in person to the best of your ability
● Working with Chamber staff on social media campaigns and website content.
● Keeping brochure racks well stocked and organized.
● Promoting local tourism products, services and events.
● Assisting with accommodation and adventure bookings and reservations.
● Ensuring visitors understand the information you are providing.
● Providing accurate and complete records of visitor statistics.
● Minor janitorial cleaning and ensuring health and safety measures are implemented to maintain a clean and organized centre.
Employment Terms:
● Experience based training provided. Must be available to start May 8th, 2024 for training. Season Open May 17th, 2024.
● This is a full time temporary position from May 8th, 2024 - September 2nd, 2024.
● Positions will be 30 - 35 hours per week.
● Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident;
● Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Please note: These positions are summer employment term opportunities. Weekend and Statutory Holiday work is required. All applicants must be able to work from May 8th, 2024 - September 2nd, 2024, with the possibility of working until October 14, 2024.
