Job Summary
The Registrar’s Office (RO) is a large, multi-unit, multi-site operation involved in the entire academic experience of Dalhousie students, from recruitment and admissions through to convocation and beyond. Reporting to the Manager, Business Strategy, the incumbent is a key resource in business and reporting analysis, reporting development, reporting analysis for improvements, and providing knowledge and support for institutional student data and information. This position develops and prepares institutional student reporting for the Registrar’s Office and departments institutionally, including official reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake reporting, business and process analysis: gather and document user requirements, research appropriate solutions and define scope with the aim for improvement
- Collaborate on a team with infrastructure, data warehouse and business analyst resources, and clearly communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical team members
- Ensure new systems, functionality and business processes used by the Registrar’s Office are identified and reflected in reporting systems, reporting needs and outputs. Develop and prepare complex student information and statistical reports on scheduled and an ad hoc basis.
- Act as the Registrar’s Office expert on student data model and student data dictionary and act as a resource to the Student Information and Systems Operations team on areas such as student data, data model, report development, reporting tool knowledge
- Analyze need for, request, and authorize the additional data views or modifications to existing views as required based on business analysis outcomes. Analyze and gather reporting requirements to develop or enhance existing reports to satisfy requests for student and enrolment data from university community.
- Develop training documentation on report development and the use of the institutional reporting tool (ie. Cognos) and train staff as needed.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in IT, Computer Science or related field with computing/systems background (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Proven report development and reporting systems and tools experience.
- Demonstrated proficient use of Cognos report development and knowledge.
- Must be able to design and develop complex reports including sub-reports, graphical reports and professionally formatted reports according to user requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in business analysis and process improvement.
- Experience with requirements gathering, documentation and stakeholder engagement.
Assets
- BRIO experience.
- Experience in medium complex data warehouse environments, programming and SQL development skills.
- University data and reporting knowledge experience.
- Student information systems and student data experience and knowledge, especially Ellucian Banner ERP.
- Project management and change management experience.
