The Cape Forchu Lighthouse is a beloved icon of the Municipality of Yarmouth, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. The Municipality of Yarmouth is committed to developing and maintaining it as a world class tourism destination. To this end, a Master Plan for development of the site has been approved and work has begun. The Site Manager is an integral part of making that Plan come to life.
The Municipality of the District of Yarmouth is looking for an experienced professional to fill the role of Cape Forchu General Manager. The General Manager will lead the implementation of visitor experience standards at the Cape Forchu Lighthouse and Leif Erikson Trail. In addition, this position will perform functions relating to the implementation of Council approved strategies and plans. This includes:
- Overall management of the site and employees
- Ensuring excellence in the delivery of visitor experience
- Ensuring delivery of the historical context of Cape Forchu
- Overseeing operation of “Climb The Light” program and gift shop
This position is 80%; 35 hours per week during the operating season (March – October) and 15 hours per week in the off-season.
· Overall management of on-site employees, retail outlet and visitor experiences
· Recommend annual budget for Cape Forchu revenues and expenses to the Deputy CAO
· Liaise with vendors, stakeholders and private sector firms on site
· Ensuring excellence and consistency in the delivery of visitor experience across the site – both municipally operated and private sector operated services & experiences
· Increase sales and protect against loss by managing retail inventory and by following good cash handling practices
· Ensure delivery of the historical context of Cape Forchu
· Aid in the advancement of the site as a world class destination
· Engage with visitors while delivering the story of Cape Forchu
· Recommend on-site experiences and products to the CAO for consideration
· Solicit feedback from visitors, catalogue and resolve visitor complaints
· Ensure all seasonal Visitor Experience Hosts maintain service quality
· Collect and report sales of merchandise/experiences as well as visitor traffic
· Liaise with Public Works ensuring overall site maintenance and safety
· Develop an approach to creating consistent presence around the property
· Provide regular and timely updates for capeforchu.com to Municipal Communications Officer
· Inspire the team to seek excellence in the delivery of the visitor experience
· Other duties as assigned by the Deputy CAO or Chief Administrative Officer

Qualifications:
Post-secondary in retail, tourism or hospitality
· Proficiency with computers and social media platforms, e-commerce and online booking systems
· Ability to communicate in writing and orally with the public in a professional and respectful manner
· Some accounting/bookkeeping
· Ability to lead and direct staff
· Must have reliable vehicle
· Must be willing to submit to a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
· 5+ years’ experience in the retail, tourism or hospitality industry
· Multi-lingual an asset, but not required
