The County of Lambton is an urban-rural area in southwestern Ontario that is home to over 126,000 residents. Position Overview

Assist Children’s Services team in assessing eligibility for child care fee subsidy in accordance with the Child Care & Early Years Act, 2014.
Work independently and as a team member assisting participants to maintain child care fee subsidy.

Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge:
  • Assist with the interview and assessing eligibility process for child care fee subsidy
  • Assist with obtaining appropriate information/documentation and complete required forms
  • Make referrals to other community agencies and resources
  • Assist with assessing ongoing eligibility by reviewing documentation and changes that can occur
  • Assist with updating fee subsidy letters, scheduling appointments and other operational duties such as downloading documents.
  • Provide vacation coverage to the child care team & assist with coverage in other areas of the department as needed
  • Adhere to requirements in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection

Technology:
  • Use the required Provincial data base Ontario Child Care Management System (OCCMS), to enter data to calculate eligibility, monitor ongoing case changes.
  • Clark Booking System used to book and monitor appointments.

Communication:
  • Clearly explain the necessary requirements and responsibilities. Use communication skills to support participants through sensitive issues i.e., lack of access to licensed child care, financial pressures.
  • Respond to requests by letter, telephone, e-mail and in person adhering to corporate standards and in a professional manner.

General:
  • Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
  • Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Education:
Registered as a full-time post-secondary student the previous academic year and returning to post-secondary school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
Experience:
Experience in a social service agency preferred, specializing in children & youth considered an asset.
Communication and computer skills.
A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
Summer Student positions with the County of Lambton may be dependent on funding and the funding criteria, which specifies that students must:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Will not have another full-time job
