About the Client and Role
Reporting to the Team Leader - IT & Communications, and working a two (2) weeks on / two (2) weeks off rotation at the Mine site, the Communications Technician will maintain and troubleshoot environmental control systems, fire and health and safety systems, production systems, and voice systems, autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
- Provide support and maintenance to the following security systems:
- Genetec Access Control for dormitory and production areas;
- Security monitoring through analogue (Pelco) and IP (Axis) cameras.
- Provide support and maintenance to the following health and safety systems:
- Motorola radio repeaters, communication towers, power plants and pager systems used for day to day communications, operations and emergency response throughout the Mine site;
- Simplex fire alarm systems
- Maintain normal voice communications between all locations at the Mine Site;
- Provide support and maintenance for the analogue phone system in dormitory;
- Maintain Wenco vehicle tracking system, precision drill system, and haul tracking system for all production equipment;
- Knowledge of best practices for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of digital mining and GPS systems;
- Maintain contact with vendors for support and problem resolution;
- Provide support and maintenance for the analogue Mitel phone system;
- Run all fibre and copper network infrastructure within the mine site;
- Provide support and maintenance to over a 150 cisco network switches, access points, and controllers across the Mine site.
- Diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology or Communications, a relevant Journeyperson Certificate, or equivalent;
- A background in maintenance and support of a variety of communications systems in an industrial setting is considered an asset;
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and other communications protocols;
- 3-5 years of experience in communication systems;
- Familiarity with Wenco installation and support, Motorola radio and paging systems;
- Experience developing a project plan, implementing, monitoring, and closing a project;
- Network certification (CCNA) will be considered an asset;
- Experience supporting Wenco DBHome, Fleet Control, Event Monitor, Bench Manager, and Drill Navigator or equivalent applications;
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Project, and SAP;
- Experience supporting Motorola Digital Radios or equivalent hardware;
- Experience supporting Cisco or Fortigate network hardware: switches, access points, and SD-Wan devices;
- Experience supporting alternate power generation sources for WAN connectivity;
- Experience supporting GPS systems.
