Public Works Construction Lead
Reporting to the directly to the Construction Supervisor and Manager of Public Works & Infrastructure, the Construction Lead position is an essential component of the MD of Taber’s construction department. This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, and ensuring the safety of various heavy equipment.
Key Duties
● Coordinating with the direct supervisor regarding task-specific operations within the divisions.
● Performing pre/post-trip inspections of equipment and reporting defects.
● Operating a range of M.D. equipment including trucks, graders, snowplows, dozers, skid steers, loaders, and more.
● Adhering to M.D. policies regarding equipment operations and operator responsibilities.
● Performing general service work on municipal equipment as per maintenance plans and supervisor directions.
● Relaying instructions and directions related to work assignments.
● Checking and maintaining road signs and ensuring adherence to all safety regulations.
● Performing preventative maintenance of equipment and assisting mechanics with inspections and repairs.
● Attending meetings related to Public Works operations and participating in safety meetings.
● Contributing to short and long-term planning and improvements in municipal infrastructure.
● Working with and assisting employees in Public Works and other departments.
● Participating in training sessions, health and safety training, and the Joint Work Health and Safety Committee.
● Performing other duties as assigned by the Public Works and Infrastructure Manager or designate.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
· Must be physically able to perform duties pertinent to operations. A combination of sitting, standing, lifting, walking, bending and kneeling are required. Work is performed primarily out-of-doors involving moderate risks, discomfort or unpleasantness. Typical worksites include a high level of noise, dust, grease or mud, moving vehicles or machines and temperatures varying from very hot to very cold.
· Work overtime as required
· Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
Security and Safety
· Must be a minimum 18 years of age
· Driver’s abstract
Education and Experience
· Minimum Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement, Class 1 preferred.
· Minimum 5 years’ heavy equipment operation experience and at least 2 years of grader experience
· High School graduation or GED
