Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Our Team:

The Contract Management Team is an integral part of the business supporting Vale’s long-term operating strategy by implementing vendor performance management processes while working with our internal customers and vendor partners to reduce total cost of ownership for services & supplies expenditures. Members of this team work across different locations to ensure all contract management processes are functioning accurately. Team members are also involved in the development of demand strategies as well as performance KPIs, initiatives, best practices and procedures.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Contract Specialist Student for Spring 2023 to join our North Atlantic Contract Management Team based in Sudbury, ON. This is a 12-month position working in a hybrid environment with an equal opportunity to be working in person and working from home.

As a Contract Specialist Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the North Atlantic Contract Management Team. You will have a holistic and enriching experience like no other, with opportunities to learn and participate in developing contract scopes, formulating demand for business needs, reviewing contract terms, working with service providers and providing data analysis and other supportive duties to assist the team.

In this position, you will:
  • Work directly with supervisors / superintendents in the contract demand planning and execution team to assist in the building of contracts, strategic analysis, supporting execution, formalizing processes and provide an array of other support as required relating to contract management / process improvement
  • Assist the contract management team in monitoring spend and trend data
  • Assist the contract management team in performing deep dives into contract issues and opportunities
  • Manage assigned projects in a manner that meets quality, time, and resource requirements;
  • Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality in handling critical and sensitive information, records, and reports;
  • Have the opportunity to build relationships with people in the business;
About You
  • Currently enrolled as a student in a Bachelor of Commerce (Co-Op) Program.
  • Concentration in Law, Accounting or Economics is preferred.
  • Solid verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – particularly Excel.
  • Proven time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
