Quality of Support

· Treat people supported with consideration, dignity and respect, use people first language

· Understand Person Centered Planning and the process to develop Individual Support Plans

· Ensure each person receives a high quality of support consistent with policy and their ISP

· Understand the issues and barriers faced by people supported and work towards improving the quality of supports

· Be resourceful and creative in developing and researching meaningful activities with people supported

· Provide support for personal hygiene and grooming in a respectful and safe manner

· Provide a variety of nutritional options based on personal and cultural choices

· Ensure actions promote rights, responsibilities, independence and decision making

· Consistently offer choices and avoid power struggles

· Demonstrate positive role modeling and treat people age appropriately

· Follow all protocols and support plans and keep informed of any changes

· Adhere to all policies, including, but not limited to:

  • Abuse Prevention, Identification and Reporting

Communication and Teamwork

· Communicate in a professional manner

· Verbally report details that are easily understood by others

· Prepare written material that is legible, professional, grammatically correct and objective

· Use a computer to prepare reports, ISPs, emails and access Com Vida

· Share relevant information at shift change or with co-workers during a shift

· Exhibit active listening skills, be attentive and responsive and ask clarifying questions

· Develop a professional rapport with people supported, their families and co-workers

· Contribute to a positive work environment, show respect, patience and friendliness towards others, do not engage in gossip

· Actively participate in team meetings, demonstrate openness to new ideas and other points of view, support team members

· Provide orientation, direction and support to new hires, students and volunteers

· Remain calm and productive in stressful situations and demonstrate resilience

Accountability

Demonstrate an understanding of job role and responsibility

· Take responsibility and assume consequences for own actions

· Maintain confidentiality according to policy

· Follow through on commitments and responsibilities within established timelines, meet deadlines

· Know the procedure for On-Call and use this support appropriately

Health and Safety/Wellness

· Aware of worker role and responsibilities under the OHSA

· Use or wear any protective equipment, device or clothing when required

· Report injuries, hazards and near misses immediately

· Understand and follow WSIB process

· Recognize the need to eliminate hazards for workers and people supported

· Operate all equipment safely and follow safe work procedures

· Know and follow the Emergency Preparedness Plan

· Develop strategies for work/life balance

Professional Development

· Research training and professional development opportunities

· Be available for required training

Working Conditions

Work occurs in service areas, office environment and in the community. Must be able to safely provide support to people with Behaviour Support Plans, includes wearing personal protective equipment and applying behavioural intervention techniques. May be exposed to noise, frequent interruptions and responsive behaviours.

Requires a high level of sensory awareness and mental effort in listening, communicating and interacting with people supported, families, staff, health care providers and members of the community.

Must have the physical ability to provide personal care, push wheelchairs, drive and complete regular household tasks (lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling).

Qualifications

Relevant degree or diploma or equivalent education and experience

Current Safe Management, First Aid

Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle

Criminal Reference with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract, Casual
Contract length: 6 months
Part-time hours: 20 per week

Salary: $23.46-$28.90 per hour
