Educational Support Coordinator
Under the guidance of the Assistant Superintendent, the Educational Support Coordinator provides a crucial role in the success of our students, faculty, and staff by providing essential educational resources and services related to the schools educational programing. As a member of the School of Horticulture team, the Educational Support Coordinator contributes to the School’s Student Success Model that ensures our services remain responsive to the user community's needs. The role will involve maintaining a user-friendly Learning Commons environment where organization and dedication to detail in maintaining a repository of records and documents will be key to the success of our students and the school’s academic community.
Niagara Parks offers an annual salary of $63,996.97 to $76,353.08 for this position plus a comprehensive benefit and definied benefit pension plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of a diploma/degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field within human services/counseling, or you are an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with equivalent work experience.
- Post-secondary certificates and/or Alternative Qualification (AQ) courses in Counseling, Leadership, and/or Guidance/Accommodated Learning are considered assets.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with post-secondary students within a helping profession, including records and document repositories, along with clerical/administrative experience.
- Proficiency with LMS software (Blackboard), ADP hours tracking, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and web search capabilities are essential.
- Knowledge of a library catalog system is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with Learning Commons users and effectively provide guidance and instruction to students.
- Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and make sound judgements while adhering to policies, procedures, and instructions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Learning Commons, ensuring a welcoming environment for students and faculty.
- Collaborate with the School of Horticulture team to align our services with current and future user community needs.
- Facilitate student’s academic/learning accommodations as they relate to the context of School’s program assisting with the implantation of individual’s academic accommodations.
- Catalog and process resources, including those related to academic accommodation, e-learning and digital research initiatives.
- Organize educational resources, including print and digital materials, online databases, and multimedia content, for easy access by students and faculty.
- Liaises between Faculty and students on learning strategies as they may relate to individual academic accommodations.
- Conduct workshops and provide individual support to students in areas such as academic accommodation, research, grants, and other possible sources of funding.
- Guide students on learning commons and associated resources by maintaining and using LMS software (Blackboard) and other digital platforms as an information hub.
- Maintain Learning Commons information on the LMS platform.
- Lead student success initiatives, workshops, and programs in partnership with the Assistant Superintendent, covering topics like time management, study skills, academic writing, and research techniques.
- Conduct training sessions on information literacy, research skills, online resource usage, source evaluation, and referencing.
- Gather and tabulate feedback from students on academic courses, school offerings, services, and resources to support continuous improvement.
- Provide individual and group academic support sessions, helping students develop effective study strategies.
- Stay informed about Niagara Parks School of Horticulture’s policies, programs, and procedures, applying this knowledge to support users and update the Learning Commons LMS portal.
- Offer referrals and support services to students as needed.
- Establish and maintain a confidential filing system for administrative information, including policies, awards, bursaries, and scholarships, including individual student accommodation, and learning strategies.
- Assist in processing, recording, managing, and updating materials related to the School of Horticulture and Botanical Gardens Site.
- Review incoming correspondence and respond within established authority boundaries.
- Support site management in developing assigned reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
