As an Environmental Specialist, you are responsible for maintaining and continually improving an environmental management system to maintain registration to the ISO 14001:2015 standard for the Waste and Recycling Services business unit. The position involves developing, coordinating, communicating and delivering a variety of environmental management programs and services within the business unit to meet regulatory compliance and reporting requirements, business needs, and performance targets. Primary duties include:
- Coordinate the environmental management system and associated audits.
- Conduct environmental inspections of facilities.
- Support and coordinate substance release reporting and related follow-up.
- Provide subject matter expertise and support as needed for capital projects.
- Data collection and reporting.
- Consultation with and regular reporting to the EnviroSystem team and Senior Management Team to identify and address environmental aspects of the business.
- Coordinate and deliver environmental training for business unit staff.
- Participate in an operational community of practice for regular exchange of information.
- Participate in an internal auditing program and providing other support to corporate initiatives.
- A degree in Applied Environmental Sciences or Engineering and at least 5 years of related experience.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) is required.
- Demonstrated experience working with Environmental Management Systems registered to the ISO 14001 standard.
- Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Knowledge of waste management and diversion systems and compliance obligations would be considered assets.
