Position: GIS Manager or Specialist

Reporting to: Project Managers

Starting: As soon as possible or open until an appropriate candidate is found

Primary Location: Drayton Valley, Alberta, with opportunities for remote working arrangements

Job Status: Full-time employee

• Generally Monday-Fridays approx. 7:30 am – 4:30 pm
• Some weekends and late days may be required, depending on emergency work.

Weekly hours may vary subject to project schedule and emergency client requests. Work includes GIS support for emergency response to spills and other environmental services. Compensation:

• Negotiable and competitive: commensurate with formal credentials, demonstrated skills, and applicable industry experience; range of $25 to $40/hr
• Hourly with 1.5x for all time worked over 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week, which ever comes first;

The Position:

We are looking for hard working, ambitious individuals to join and help grow our regulatory team. Duties could include, but are not limited, to:

• We are looking for a hard working, ambitious individual to build and manage Gen7’s Geographic Information System (GIS) data and system. The database will incorporate the wide range of environmental data we have collected and continue to collect, as well as other data available and provided to us. The database will be available online.
• The individual will also design and produce mapping templates and deliverables to support our range of services, and understand / work with / integrate developing spatial data collection and field navigation technologies (e.g. Avenza) that would complement our business.
• Develop opportunities to streamline our spatial data products into more efficient and consistent products.
• If you are interested in field work, a field component could be worked into the position.

Your Experience:

• Experience building a GIS database for small companies would be considered a significant asset.
• A range of work experience would be considered, depending on the education of the individual.
• Significant experience managing and working with GIS data. Experience with environmental field data would be considered very beneficial.
• Ability to move spatial and other attribute data among different software programs (ArcGIS, ArcGIS online, Avenza, Excel, etc.) for various purposes.
• Experience setting up field data collection systems using different data collection units (e.g. Trimble, Garmin, IPad, etc.) would be very beneficial.

Education

• A range of academic credentials would be of interest, depending on the work experience of the individual. Post-secondary education in a field directly related to GIS would be desirable, as would post-secondary education in a complementary field (e.g. environmental science) combined with significant experience in GIS.
