Join my clients team as a GIS Technician with their First Nations Engineering services group.. You will play a crucial role in supporting the ongoing maintenance and dissemination of data and applications in the GIS environment. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Engineering, you will collaborate with various departments to ensure their GIS information needs are met on a day-to-day basis.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a GIS Technician, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Ongoing spatial data maintenance, dissemination, and end-user support.
- Generating maps and other GIS reports and information products.
- Providing technical expertise in asset management.
- Creating as-built Nation drawings using AutoCAD.
- Compiling and organizing GIS data from maps, databases, and other sources.
- Collecting field data using Global Positioning System (GPS) units.
- Collecting and converting mapping resources and data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Experience in analyzing spatial data in a municipal and First Nations environment.
- Ability to translate client requirements into appropriate GIS reports and thematic maps.
- Knowledge of modern component-based GIS tools and methodology for Nation and utility GIS use cases.
- Familiarity with SQL (Structured Query Language) Databases and ArcGIS is an asset.
- Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD as related to municipal infrastructure mapping.
Education and Experience:
- Two-year College Diploma in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Sciences, Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
- Five years’ experience in developing and maintaining GIS data, including the use of ESRI (including ArcGIS) software and Global Positioning System (GPS) units for data collection.
Other Requirements:
- Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license.
- General knowledge of First Nation culture.
- Current criminal records check.
- Previous work in the Indigenous community is an asset.
Compensation:
$75,000 - $95,000 Annually (Based on education and experience)
- 3 weeks vacation + Christmas time off
- 10 sick days
