About the Role
Your Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and practices at QSS.
- Ensures employees know how to perform each job assigned to them in an efficient manner and that they are fully aware of the correct and safe way to operate their equipment.
- Ensures employees are instructed on the use of, and comply with, Company standards regarding personal protective equipment.
- Responsible for recognizing and rectifying unsafe working conditions and maintains excellent housekeeping in the facility by performing regular inspections of their department(s).
- Ensures that a proper investigation of any accident is completed and reported in a timely manner.
- Comply with all Company safety policies, procedures and rules.
- Ensure that all departmental objectives and activities are aligned to the Magna Employee Charter.
- Adheres to technical system procedures, quality instructions and compliance to all QSS policies and procedures.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for continual improvement.
- Develop and implement an effective Health and Safety Program, which equates to a healthy and safe working environment for all Qualtech Seating System employees.
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety training programs, e.g. Lock Out, WHMIS, Lift Truck Operator training etc. Monitors safety training records and reports.
- Participate in the development of yearly follow-up programs for re-training of all personnel as it relates to safety.
- Monitors incident statistics to develop corrective actions to effectively reduce incident/accident rates.
- Continuously train supervisors, JHSC/Ergo Committee Chairs/Co-Chairs, and employees in all aspects of Health and Safety to promote self-awareness.
- Participate in equipment purchase and modification to ensure such changes meet OHSA requirements and other applicable regulations and standards/guidelines.
- Lead the effective operation of an internal Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Monitor Health and Safety procedure implementation and take appropriate action to help ensure full compliance. Represent the company on all M.O.L. visits.
- Ensures that accident prevention/reduction is a major part of all plant employee duties.
- Responsible to develop in-plant Health and Safety procedures in conjunction with the J.H.S.C. to meet their respective plant needs.
- Comply with all applicable Health and Safety legislation (OHSA) and all regulations and guidelines, e.g. designated substances, monthly plant inspections, etc.
- Responsible for weekly/monthly reports as deemed necessary for KPI's and Magna reporting.
- Prepares for, and leads, all internal and external audits related to Health and Safety.
- Ensures representation for: applicable engineering gate reviews, pre-start safety inspections, etc. Participates in equipment design reviews and PSHSR to ensure that equipment/facility meets current legislation and applicable CSA standards.
- Support the Engineering department with the change management process.
- Assist with environmental program management and environmental objectives.
- Responsible for operating within yearly budget. Responsible to stay current on legislative updates via training, courses, seminars etc. and ensure Company is advised of the same.
- Perform special projects in support of the organizations business objectives.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Your preferred qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field, preferably in Occupational Health and Safety Management or Environmental Management.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of OHSA and good understanding of environmental legislation.
- Minimum of three (3) years work related experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
- Able to work in a strictly confidential and professional manner.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and various software programs as required.
- Must have good leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
