About the Role
Takes an active role in administering the Occupational Health and Safety programs aong with environmental, ensuring compliance with safety standards and applicable legislation. Provides instruction and training on safe handling of products, materials and/or equipment. Investigates and reports workplace accidents. Actively participates in the activities of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Conducts routine audits to determine the nature and extend of unsafe work practices recommending corrective actions. Makes recommendation concerning compliance with all Health and Safety Regulations, Environmental Regulations. Additionally oversee’ s and supports the ergonomics and sustainability initiatives throughout the office and plant.
Your Responsibilities
• Review legislation, assess applicability, and ensure that effective tools, systems, and policies are in place to achieve compliance with legal requirements, proactively identify and address health, safety, and Environmental issues/concerns
• Implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001
• Perform audit for ISO 14001, 18000, IATF 16949 Safety and ergonomic program and ensure that corrective actions are completed in a timely manner
• Input and update data in HSELinx
• Working knowledge of hazardous waste management disposal and storage
• Inspects machines and other equipment for accident prevention devices
• Chair’s JHSC meetings, open items and works with JHSC members and management to complete monthly investigations
• Prepare and/or conduct employee communications for monthly safety talks, pre-shift meetings, training, employee meetings and at times be involved with employee discipline related to violations of HSE policies
• Provides required reports to Management, Magna, or Government
• Interact with local governmental authorities (Fire Department, Police MOL, MOE, contractors, Corporate and facilities, Employers Advocacy Council), develop and maintain a positive relationship
• Review and/or participate in investigation of all accidents and prepares reports to management and WSIB
• Reviews and improves NEER Claim Cost Statement
• Oversees Health, Safety and Environmental Programs, Policies and prepares them for management review.
• Attends APQP meetings (on as required basis) where health, safety, ergonomics, safety devices, etc. are to be implemented or discussed especially with new programs
• Develop training matrix and develop training programs, conduct training needs analysis, conduct and organize training, ensure compliance with the training matrix within all levels of the organization
• Conducts HSE orientation and trains new hires in areas such as WHIMS, LOTO, Safety awareness, COVID 19
• Reviews and manages WHIMS requirements – training, update SDS database
• Industrial hygiene assessments: determine the locations for analyses and contaminants that need to be measured
• Conduct Personal Protective Equipment assessments and ensure that appropriate PPE is provided to the employees
• Perform hazard / risk assessments, Job Task Analysis / Ergonomic Risk Assessments / Physical Demand Analysis
• Schedule and support HSE sampling and testing such as but not limited to air testing, water, noise surveys, hearing tests, eye tests, medical exams, NPRI etc.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a passionate individual to lead Health, Safety and Environment activities at our division. The successful candidate will have experience in HSE programs and legislation along with experience with regards to ergonomics and sustainability initiatives. Someone who can collaborate with cross functional teams and plant floor employee to improve all HSE initiatives and programs.
Your preferred qualifications
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of ergonomics
• Knowledge of sustainability
• Working knowledge of ISO 14005
• Lead and implement improvement projects and HSE systems
• Automotive background (Experience with presses, rolling mills etc.)
• Knowledge and understanding of IATF standards
