Your Opportunity at SECURE Energy

As an integral part of SECURE’s People & Culture team, the Human Resources (HR) Generalist will work closely with Operational Managers within the Metals Recycling, Mining, and Rail business units to support all operational and strategic HR needs.

The HR Generalist will help to facilitate and consistently improve operational HR strategies related to the employee lifecycle and is accountable for recruitment, onboarding, employee performance management, workplace investigations, risk mitigation, and employee relations and engagement that promotes a transparent and safe environment for all divisional staff.

A Day in The Life

Overall Responsibilities

  • Primary point of contact for the Business Unit Leaders, establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Partners with leaders in management meetings ensuring HR support for the delivery of strategic objectives and alignment with overall corporate objectives.
  • Travel to remote field locations within Western Canada monthly (BC, SK, MB).
  • Drives a continuous improvement mindset using business process analysis (performing independent studies, analysis, interpretations, conclusions, and recommendations).
  • Participates with leaders on annual short and long-term strategic planning, ensuring HR support for the delivery of strategic objectives and alignment with overall business unit objectives.

Talent Acquisition

  • Delivers full cycle recruiting for the business to include the following: advertise, recruit, screen, interview, and assess candidates to ensure that only qualified and interested candidates are presented to hiring managers.
  • Designs, builds, and implements innovative recruitment programs by ensuring consistency of the SECURE brand in conjunction with job postings, career fairs, and industry events.
  • Coordinates new hire onboarding to create a welcoming employee experience.

HR Advisory

  • Acts as a business partner to leaders; bringing a confident voice to business-critical conversations and decisions while demonstrating expertise to ensure people needs and priorities are a key part of SECURE’s business decisions.
  • Administers core HR programs for the business unit in the broad categories of employee relations, engagement, compensation, recruitment, learning and development and performance management.
  • Collaborates with the HR Manager and broader Strategic Partnering team to provide consistent employee relations advice within the guidelines of SECURE, Labour and Human Rights laws and any other applicable legislation.
  • Conducts workplace investigations including creation of investigation plans, performing interviews, and making recommendations in alignment with SECURE’s values, guidelines, and policies.
  • Partners with the Health and Safety team to promote SECURE’s safety culture and application of practices and policies to reduce and eliminate safety and environmental incidents.

Skills, Experience, & Qualifications

The individual in this role will have:

  • A degree and/or diploma in Human Resources or Commerce/Management, combined with 5-7 years of HR Generalist experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with multiple leaders, providing effective guidance and respectful challenge where appropriate.
  • Build credibility and trust among employees; resolve employee concerns with compassion and follow through.
  • Proven ability to work with Senior Leaders, as well as the ability to persuade and influence decision makers and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with a local client group and remote HR team.
  • Strong critical thinking with the ability to analyze trends with data and key metrics to propose recommendations.
  • Strong coaching, people, management, conflict resolution, relationship and team building skills, and demonstrated ability to influence.
  • Knowledge of HR legislation (within BC, AB, SK & MB) and applications along with demonstrated project management/change management skills
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to be resourceful and work both independently and as part of a team.
