Overall Job Responsibility:
The System Support Specialist (SSS) shall apply technical support, training and expertise to the Health Unit’s information systems. These systems include all workstations, networking equipment, servers (virtual and physical), telephone and voicemail systems, printers, mobile smartphones and laptops, e-mail and web, operating systems and software, and other systems.
Position Qualifications:
Education, training, & experience
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology
- Minimum two to three years’ experience working in Information Technology
- Monitor all production servers and networking equipment to ensure network uptime
- Create, maintain and monitor relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases
- Address a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications
- Monitor and maintain database security and database software, in cooperation with data security administrators
- Provide support to end users; advise on troubleshooting, exception processing, and other data management issues
- Monitor and manage the data backup solution
- Install, maintain and upgrade database software; restore and/or recover data as required
- Create, procure and maintain various database related documents such as manuals and end-user handbooks
- Test and evaluate systems to optimize database performance and manage all back-end server operating systems
- Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems
- Provide Help Desk support to all Health Unit staff
- Learn and maintain understanding of Health Unit operating systems
- Provide back-up for Ministry-based applications/data bases
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Create clear technical documentation for training
- Liaise with hardware and software vendors regarding technical support (including Ministry of Health).
- Participate, occasionally, in meetings with external contacts to give recommendations and input on in-house and subcontracted projects
- A valid Ontario Driver's Licence and access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours, as well as 1 million dollars in liability insurance
- Satisfactory police clearance
- TB test
- WECHU immunization policies must be adhered to
