Landscape Lead Hand
Cobble Design is an award-winning, full-scale landscape design and installation firm, specializing in complex landscape projects for residential and recreational properties along Ontario’s West Coast (Huron County). We are a well-respected company, with a 35-year reputation for designing and installing complex and high-quality landscapes. Our work includes walkways, driveways, patios, firepits, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, tramlines, water features, fencing, and lighting.
We are looking for a Landscape Lead Hand to join our incredible crew of landscape professionals.
Job Summary
As a Landscape Lead Hand you will work as part of a small crew in preparing properties for landscaping, constructing hardscapes, such as walkways, driveways, patios, retaining walls, outdoor kitchens and firepits, and planting flowers, shrubs, and trees. You will also assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, including the work site, equipment, and warehouse.
During construction of hardscapes, you are expected to:
- Operate machinery, including skid steer loaders, excavators, and other machinery as required
- Assist machine operators with levelling and grading by utilizing laser levels as well as hand raking and hand shovelling gravel and other materials,
- Wheelbarrow materials to various locations on a job site
- Use machine tampers to compact areas
- Hand lay man made and natural stone pavers
- Mix mortar and cement
- Operate power equipment such as, but not limited to leaf blowers, chain saws, pruners and trimmers, and stone saws
- And perform other duties as required
During planting of flowers, shrubs, and trees you are expected to:
- Prepare planting beds
- Place plants, shrubs, and trees into planting beds
- Mulch planting beds
- Water plants, shrubs, and trees
- And perform other duties as required
To assist with maintaining a clean and safe work environment, you are expected to:
- Use hand and power tools to sweep and clean work sites, vehicles, and the warehouse
- Assist with regular maintenance of equipment and vehicles
- Ensure complete compliance with all applicable provincial codes, rules, regulations, and laws as well as company policies with respect to health and safety
Before and after each day you will normally be required to assist with the loading and unloading of tools and materials into and from vehicles, including pickup trucks, dump trucks, and trailers.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year experience in construction, landscape or otherwise
- Ability to operate heavy equipment including skid steer loaders and excavators
- Valid G class driver license
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Able to work efficiently and productively in a team environment
- Self-motivated individual who is passionate about performing high quality work
- Professional manner when interacting with clients, co-workers, and suppliers
Compensation, benefits, and hours
This is a full-time, seasonal role, with a five day work week, with the option to work Saturdays.
Weekday shifts normally begin at 7:00 am at our warehouse, where you will assist with the loading of vehicles. You will then proceed to the work site, where we normally work until 6:00 pm. Your paid shift ends after your return to the warehouse, and once vehicles are unloaded.
Saturday shifts also normally begin at 7:00 am at our warehouse but end at noon at the work site.
Compensation for this role ranges from $23.10 to $29.4 a hour with 4% vacation pay, depending on experience. Overtime, at time and a half, is paid for every hour worked over 50 hours in the week.
As a full-time employee, you will also be eligible for our annual bonus pool, company paid health and dental benefits, paid training, and work boot reimbursement (subject to a maximum of $300 and satisfactory completion of a 3-month probationary period).
We operate from April to October, with some seasons extending into November, depending on the weather. Employees are laid off during the winter.
