ATCO Frontec is seeking an Operations Accountantto join our team in Calgary, AB. The Operations Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of their individual business operations and to provide accurate and timely information to internal and external stakeholders, which includes budgets, actuals, analysis, and forecasts.
Responsibilities:
- Financial liaison between business operations and head office management, the finance department and shared services.
- Be the financial partner to business managers. Understand, question and deliver the financial indicators needed to improve revenue and earnings.
- Capture revenues and expenses at an appropriate detail on a General Ledger and Project basis to facilitate benchmarking.
- Reconcile and attest to the accuracy of all balance sheet accounts, including: AR, AP, Intracompany, Inventory, and PP&E.
- Reconcile and attest to the accuracy of all income statement accounts, including: Revenues, Labor, Contractor Services, and Depreciation.
- Complete yearly budgeting and monthly forecasting of income statements and cash flows.
- Prepare, analyze and present monthly financial results for each project and consolidated basis in accordance with IFRS.
- Complete in-depth and succinct variance analysis on a monthly basis.
- Perform cost analysis and forecasting for projects, providing insights to project managers and stakeholders. Monitor project financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities for cost savings or revenue generation.
- Be the subject matter expert in the revenue recognition practices and billing terms and conditions of all assigned contracts. Stay updated on IFRS accounting standards related to Project Accounting. Understand the definition of milestone accounting. Analyze expenses to ensure appropriate revenue and expense recognition.
- Be a resource to the project team to develop and improve financial processes related to the overall Project Management oversight.
- Monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in compliance with contract terms and conditions, as well as company policies and procedures.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Preference given to candidates with public accounting experience (3+ years) as well as a background in operations accounting (1 - 2 years);
- Post-secondary degree in accounting is required.
- Completion of CPA designation, or in the process of completion of, is considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills and ability to present information in a variety of formats to all levels of employees;
- Able to work and collaborate in a team environment;
- Experience with coordinating and influencing outcomes of remote employees;
- Must have experience in continuous improvement and sharing innovative ideas;
- Experience using Oracle Cloud would be an asset;
- Experience using Oracle Project Accounting would be an asset;
