POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the District Roads Supervisor, is responsible for providing technical operational support to the individual patrol organization to ensure compliance of operational work practices with appropriate quality standards, and to function as Lead Operator on an acting basis during the winter.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical support to the Roads Supervisors, Lead Operators and Transportation Maintenance Workers, to ensure the quality and quantity assurance of contracted work is in compliance with specifications.
- Performs winter road maintenance patrol activities on shift arrangement during winter period; initiates and directs operational response activities including winter sanding, salting, snow removal, etc. of both internal and external forces.
- Coordinates the repair and maintenance of the work unit fleet equipment in compliance with support services activities.
- Prepares and coordinates the preparation of background data to assist and defend insurance related claims.
- Provides technical operational capacity of inputting road maintenance management and/or support services management system data.
- Evaluates effectiveness and efficiencies of work operations and accomplishments in compliance with Regional standards.
- Establishes and maintains monitoring control processes to ensure operational activities, equipment purchases, fleet maintenance, support services and corridor patrol procedures of the work crew are in compliance with Regional objectives.
- Responds to inquiries from the public or contractors in accordance with Regional standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
- Acts as Lead Operator during winter maintenance period, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of a two (2) year Community College Diploma Program in Civil Engineering Technology or approved equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in operational or construction related practices in a transportation related organization.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence.
- Knowledge of field survey equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines, procedures and standards, including the Highway Traffic Act, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications as well as proficiency with the application of specialized software relevant to the technical specialty.
- Ability to analyze and assess current work methods and initiate draft revisions.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labourer work in adverse weather conditions when acting as Lead Operator.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
