THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a full-time, permanent position.
Probationary Rate: $32.58 per hour
Base Rate: $33.54
Developmental Rate: $34.30
Qualified Rate: $35.25
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out work assignments in park related areas including amenity, cemetery, environmental services, event support services, horticulture, pathway and trail, sport field maintenance, turf grass maintenance, and urban forestry.
Snow and Ice Control and Outdoor Ice
- Operate equipment and vehicles for snow and ice control on City sidewalks and pathways.
- Build and maintain out door ice rinks and pads.
Operating Equipment
- Operate all assigned vehicles, equipment, and attachments, including tractors, skid steers, rubber tire backhoe, wheel loaders, ice re-surfacer, aerial lift trucks, mowers, utility vehicles, in a safe and skillful manner to complete assigned tasks.
Project coordination
- Coordinate implementation of small construction projects that include outsourced services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification, education and training related to ornamental horticulture, turf maintenance, sport field maintenance, natural ice maintenance, urban forestry, equipment operation and environmental service.
- 3 years of tasks and equipment operating related to a Parks environment.
- Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5Q Motor Vehicle Operator’s License is mandatory; Drivers abstract required
- Must have basic office computer skills.
- Significant knowledge of the methods, practices and rules of the safe operation of the assigned equipment and occupational hazards applicable to the work.
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions, including completing required forms, reports, maps and drawings.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work of this position.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of coursework or certification in safety management.
- Completion of coursework or certification in areas of leadership, teamwork or supervision.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must obtain a satisfactory review of a three-year Driver’s Abstract.
- Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5Q Motor Vehicle Operator’s License is mandatory.
