Job Summary

The Ministry of Children and Family Development supports healthy child development by its commitment to a collaborative professional practice delivered across a range of services that strive to maximize the potential of children and youth and achieve meaningful outcomes for children, youth and families. The Ministry promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for vulnerable children and youth and supports healthy child and family development to achieve the potential of every child in British Columbia.
The Partnership and Indigenous Engagement Division provides support and guidance to each Indigenous community as they work towards exercising authority and jurisdiction over child and family services. This may include creating shared workplans, collaborating with partners from across the provincial and federal governments, developing agreements to formalize relationships and supporting efforts to address service delivery issues affecting Indigenous children, families and communities.
The work of the division directly supports the ministry's goal to engage with Indigenous peoples and partners to strengthen the child welfare system by addressing the root causes of the over-representation of Indigenous children and youth in government care.
Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Agreements, the Senior Policy Analyst supports the development of Indigenous agreements related to Indigenous child welfare jurisdiction, including consultation, research and analysis, and preparing briefing materials. The Partnership and Indigenous Engagement Division works closely with other ministries, the federal government and key Indigenous partners on emerging child welfare related issues and projects that affect Indigenous children, youth and families.
Job Requirements:
  • Degree in an appropriate discipline (social sciences, law, public administration, business administration) anda minimum of three (3) years of related work experience*;OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e. Diploma in a relevant discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience*).

Related Work Experience* must include all of the following:
  • Experience in the development and/or application of legislation and regulation.
  • Experience researching policy issues and conducting policy analysis.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments.
  • Experience in writing a range of documents for senior staff, executive, partners and stakeholders.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience in the development and/or analysis of legislation, regulation and policy that affects Indigenous people and/or communities.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people and/or organizations.
  • Who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
