As members of the Operational Performance team, Process Engineers apply scientific theory, methods, and problem-solving skills to address drinking water treatment challenges.  As the Process Engineer, you will be responsible for the support and optimization of water treatment and transmission processes, which include two treatment plants, 44 secondary pump stations and 23 underground water storage reservoirs. Primary duties include:

  • Provide engineering support to Operations and Maintenance to improve plant processes and resolve ongoing issues such as troubleshooting process-related problems, issuing technical guidance and recommendations, investigating instrumentation-related issues, and monitoring systems to meet process optimization and regulatory goals.
  • Identify operational and infrastructure issues and ensure they are prioritized, tracked, communicated, and resolved. Apply engineering analysis and judgment to ensure a satisfactory resolution.
  • Lead or participate in engineering investigations and capital project design reviews, providing timely input to ensure designs meet Water Treatment needs.
  • Review Control Systems performance on water treatment systems and create/maintain process control documentation.
  • Optimize the utilization of existing plant infrastructure to assist the division in meeting its goals related to quality, safety, cost and risk management. Assess and develop opportunities for optimizing use of energy and resources, including performing research and pilot studies.
  • Interpret chemical water data and assess chemical performance to ensure compliance with regulatory standards for the protection of public health.
  • Communicate with partners regarding project activities, results, and conclusions. This includes internal and external parties to Water Treatment.
 
Qualifications 
  • You must have a degree in Engineering preferably in Environmental, Chemical or Civil Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Working knowledge of water treatment processes, industrial automation systems, mechanical/chemical process optimization, equipment utilization, transmission processes or electrical power management will be given preference.
  • Strong working knowledge of existing and emerging water treatment processes, standards, and issues, plus an experienced understanding of the design and construction of water treatment plants, storage reservoirs, and pump station is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation systems, mechanical/chemical process optimization, equipment utilization, transmission processes or electrical power management is also preferred.
  • Technical, financial, and strategic analysis, budget and project preparation and monitoring along with risk assessment and mitigation skills are required for success in this role.
  • Success in this position requires demonstrated abilities in: Problem solving and planning skills with attention to detail and accuracy; risk assessment and mitigation; ability to evaluate the benefits, risks and costs of implementing process improvements; excellent project management skills and change management skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; dedication to customer service; strong communication and interpersonal skills.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
