POSITION TITLE: PROCESS ENGINEER

REPORTS TO: PROCESS ENGINEERING MANAGER

DEPARTMENT: PROCESS ENGINEERING

Position Summary

The Process Engineer is mainly responsible for; providing process design, safety, and process development to the organization while ensuring that technical excellence, cost, schedule, and contractual requirements are achieved. They are responsible for the detailed execution of various sizes of projects and studies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The role of the Process Engineer encompasses many activities including:

  • Modeling, simulations, and calculations of different process units.
  • Generate project documents including datasheets, and control documentation (narratives, shutdown keys, Alarm, and setpoint list…)
  • Prepare detailed simulations of plant processes for bid and project purposes.
  • Prepare start-up / operating manual.
  • Preparation and review of project deliverables including project design criteria, design basis, and process specifications.
  • Developing and stamping key design documents (PFDs, P&IDs, and Shutdown Keys).
  • Size control valves, PSVs, and flare systems.
  • Sizing of equipment, piping, safety and control instruments, and datasheets.
  • Development of process control and safety design philosophies.
  • Review specifications to aid in the preparation of bids and/or the successful execution of a project.
  • Participate in HAZOP meetings.
  • Working with clients and vendors.

Direct Reports

The Process Engineer is a motivated member of a team working together in the most efficient manner. The Intermediate Process Engineer directly reports to the Process Engineering Manager.

Tools, Systems, Equipment and Machinery

Computer/laptop with Microsoft Office, Estimating software. Various engineering and project-related software programs including; Symmetry, Aspen Hysys, Promax, Aspen EDR, MATLAB, Microsoft Office/Visio/Project, and various sizing programs.

Physical Requirements

Sitting for long periods at a time focused on a computer screen or CAD drawings.

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel within the Province of Alberta.

Working Environment

Works in a controlled office environment. Occasional visits to the fabrication shop which requires appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).

Communications

Attends internal and/or external meetings. Interacts in a respectful and cooperative manner. Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion. Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.

Qualifications

  • Graduate Chemical/Process Engineer.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as E.I.T. or P.Eng.
  • Registration as a P. Eng. is mandatory.
  • Must be eligible for professional registration in other provinces across Canada.
  • Proficient in Process Engineering tools and methods such as Symmetry, Aspen Hysys, Promax, Aspen EDR, Aspen Flare
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience in Process Engineering aspects of gas processing industries.
  • Proficient in developing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), equipment sizing, control valve/ relief valve sizing, Process, and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), line schedules, etc.
  • In-depth technical knowledge and understanding of discipline key work processes as well as overall project development processes.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the Canadian gas processing industry and its standards, practices, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of the gas processing industry in other parts of the world is considered an asset.
  • Field experience in commissioning/start-up or Operations in Oil and Gas facilities is an asset.
