Job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager of Operations, the Procurement Specialist is responsible for facilitating purchases from outside suppliers to keep the business running; researching key suppliers, negotiating favorable purchase agreements, building and maintaining strategic relationship with suppliers, and ensuring all products and materials meet Presteve’s standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies.
  • Identify and research prospective suppliers and assess the risks of potential contracts and agreements.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to support purchasing goals of lowest possible total cost.
  • Gather quotes, proposals, and purchase terms and conditions. Create purchase orders and tally these with supply requests and orders.
  • Expedite purchase orders as required to meet stakeholders’ requirements and timelines.
  • Analyze and issue invoices regarding supply requests and supply orders.
  • Review and analyse competitive quotations and tenders, and support supplier transition as needed.
  • Lead the demand planning process to anticipate the needs of the company and plan ahead for effective resource management.
  • Update the General Manager of Operations on any current or predictable inventory issues.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues and concerns. Ensure products meet requirements of price, quality, sustainability and timing.
  • Stay current with internal and external factors affecting procurement functions.
  • Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.
  • Ensure flow of inventory that guarantees optimum stock levels.
  • Maintain an extensive database for all orders that is up to date and provides information for analysis and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain KanBan system for packaging tracking within the plant.
  • Conduct supplier meetings/interviews to improve levels of service and/or to develop and establish new vendors where necessary.
  • Lead revisions on existing and developing new packaging.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Technical skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Engineering or Supply Chain Management.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Procurement.
  • Outstanding negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong management skills.
  • Working experience in the food industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices.
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows environment. Familiar with the use Excel (pivot tables) and Power Point.
  • Ability to analyze data and information, evaluate options, and make informed decisions that align with the company’s values and goals.
  • Able to work independently and in a group setting as required.

Work Conditions

  • Travel between facilities may be required.
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Occasionally exposed to a cold and wet environment.
  • Must be able to bend, lift and twist.
