We are a fast-growing, dynamic, and innovative cannabis production company, committed to providing high-quality products to its customers. We are looking for a talented and motivated Production Manager to join our team and help drive our continued growth.

About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Production Manager and Quality Assurance Team, the Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities in production including Extraction, Processing, and Manufacturing. As well as leading the production team to ensure that the daily, weekly, and quarterly production objectives are met, the production schedule is followed, and batch records are accurate and up to date.

The Production Manager will have strong business acumen and is a seasoned leader who can rally the team, mentor, and guide. The Production Manager will have the ability to forecast scheduling and prepare the timing of rooms and staff for production. They are able to identify the superpowers of our staff and where they need additional training. As well as playing a key role in advising on improvements for production, professional development opportunities, performance management, recruitment, and selection.

Because the Production Manager will be hands on and on the production floor, they will have a bird’s eye view of the team’s daily work and operations. They have proven techniques to identify and balance building the team for success and when needed, having difficult conversations.

Duties and responsibilities (include and are not limited to):

We are a fast-paced company where change is inevitable and therefore the roles and responsibilities will change based on the needs of the company.

  • Support the Senior Production Manager and other Production Managers in day-to-day activities, organization, and management of the extraction, processing, manufacturing workforce.
  • This role will be responsible for supporting elements of planning and overseeing the processing, packaging, and labeling of all products produced.
  • Report to the Senior Production Manager or designate regarding daily production updates, updated regarding production staff, and any pressing issues.
  • Participate in recruitment and selection.
  • Stay abreast of company changes within the scope of your role, including changes to our product line and timelines.
  • Play a lead role in people management.
  • Meet production deadlines.
  • Coach the team to proactively identify and resolve any operational issues before they arise, develop new systems and processes as needed.
  • Build professional relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Practice 6 sigma and Lean best practices.
  • Constantly Improve.
  • Secure and maintain your security clearance.
  • Maintain a professional and clean work environment as per industry expectations.
  • Take on special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Run effective staff meetings.
  • Build morale.
  • Play a key role with inventory controls, ordering and maintaining inventory levels for production needs.
  • Track daily KPIs from each production line to ensure they are reached, and problem solve where needed to ensure metrics are obtained. These KPIs will be used to track the progress of every production line and these KPIs will then be reported to the Senior Production Manager.
  • Act as the person-in-charge for production when the General and/or other Production Managers are unavailable or offsite.
  • Be responsible for the daily review of batch records and other necessary documentation, ensuring that all records are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Work in coordination with QA in case of discrepancies in batch records. The daily review of all batch records will make it easier for compliance reporting and QA reconciliation.
  • Uphold Canada’s Cannabis Regulations.
  • Be willing to be flexible and nimble.
  • Be able to navigate through potential changes in production needs and priorities.
  • Monitoring production staff for on-time starts, break times, and shift turnovers to maximize efficiency.
  • Be available for staff when in need of any type of support.
  • Be present and engaged in meetings.
  • Be professional and an ambassador of the company.

Qualifications/competencies:

  • A proven leader with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role and has proven experience in managing a growing team.
  • Post-secondary in science, particularly Chemistry, is an asset.
  • Education in Production/Operations Management or related fields is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with compliance requirements of cannabis production and processes.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and pass an RCMP Criminal Record Check and maintain security clearance (required).
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting is required.
  • Possess strong communication skills with the ability to interact and lead with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • A high-level knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite with exceptional Excel skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving ability, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent time management & multi-tasking abilities, as well as a high level of energy and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have focused attention to detail, observation ability, and excellent paperwork skills (i.e. understanding and maintaining batch records).
  • Must be ready to switch priorities when production plans change.
  • Desire and ability to collaborate and succeed with others.
  • Cannabis industry knowledge is an asset.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Experience:

  • Leadership: 3 years (preferred)
  • Lean manufacturing: 3 years (preferred)
  • Production: 3 years (preferred)
