Summary of Responsibilities:

The Quality Control Inspector is pivotal in ensuring the quality and compliance of parts and equipment manufactured by external vendors for Wilcox GSE. This role involves significant travel to vendor sites for conducting inspections and audits, collaborating with internal teams to resolve quality issues, and upholding stringent Quality Control standards. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

1. External Quality Assurance: Perform regular on-site inspections at vendor facilities to ensure compliance with Wilcox GSE's quality standards. This includes conducting visual inspections, assembly, and packaging checks as well as incoming inspections of Wilcox supplied parts at main vendor location(s).

2. Vendor Collaboration: Work closely with external manufacturers to identify and rectify quality issues. Initiate and follow-up on corrective actions and improvement plans.

3. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions. Prepare and submit detailed reports to the Project Manager and Quality Control Manager.

4. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancing quality in external manufacturing processes. Propose and assist in implementing new Quality Control methods and standards.

5. Communication and Coordination: Liaise with internal teams, including Project Manager, Buyer, to ensure consistency of quality standards.

6. Education and Training: Provide training and support to vendor staff to ensure understanding and compliance with Wilcox GSE's quality standards.

7. Process Monitoring: Monitor and review manufacturing processes and inspections at vendor sites, ensuring all documentation is complete and compliant.

8. Product Knowledge: Develop an in-depth understanding of Wilcox GSE's product lines to effectively assess quality.

9. Safety and Compliance: Uphold safety standards and participate in continuous improvement programs including 5S initiatives.

10. Contribute and support the Quality department in the development of a library of detailed work instructions referenced to product numbers and part numbers. Maintain this library through document control and overall change management processes.

11. Initiate Engineering Change Requests as required.

12. Perform additional tasks as assigned, including but not limited to on-site training at customer locations.

Skills/Abilities:

  • High energy and strong work ethic driving towards meeting or exceeding the teams and individual goals
  • Proficient in problem solving (8D, 7 Step, 5 Phase, 5 Why, Six Sigma)
  • Familiar with (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC)
  • Familiar with Supplier capability assessments
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Ability to make professional presentations and influence external partners.
  • Proficient in MS Office and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to read technical drawings including BOMs and CAD.
  • Possess positive attitude and problem-solving skills.

Job Knowledge or Work Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing industry, with at least 2-4 years in a Quality Assurance role, preferably in an external vendor inspection capacity.
  • Sound understanding of basic Quality Assurance concepts tools and processes (Corrective Actions, NCR’s, standardized procedures, tracking, auditing)
  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing processes, with an emphasis on powder coating
  • Ability to listen and communicate concisely and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Six Sigma certification is an asset.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel to vendor sites.
  • Working in a production/shop environment
  • Occasional lifting and moving materials required

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Possess valid drivers license and have reliable car
  • Ability to work outside of normal working days and hours

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $25.00-$28.00 per hour
