Job Description
Based in Red Lake, you will be directly responsible and accountable for all activities conducted in the Safety and Training Department while leading, promoting and developing health and safety functions in accordance with statutory requirements, Company values, standards, policies and procedures. The role will provide leadership to the team by promoting a zero-harm culture, sustainable development and for achieving overall objectives of the Kinross Great Bear site, including exploration, project(s) and operations.
The role will support the ongoing surface exploration program at Great Bear as well as the upcoming construction and underground work for the Advanced Exploration declines and drilling.
Job Responsibilities
- Support a proactive health and safety culture within the team.
- Ensure rapid and effective documentation and investigation of any incidents (including compliance with worker’s compensation reporting).
- Monitor and recommend improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the HSE management system and requisite behaviors and practices.
- Identify H&S risks and provide resolutions of emerging/escalating issues and risks.
- Take the lead in facilitating safety discussions during daily line-out meetings for both surface and underground operations, fostering open communication, addressing safety concerns, and reinforcing a safety-first culture among the workforce.
- Oversee the site's Critical Risk Management (CRM) program, identifying and assessing high-risk activities, implementing controls, and regularly reviewing CRM data to proactively mitigate potential hazards and enhance overall safety performance.
- Develop and document comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both surface construction and underground mining operations, outlining step-by-step processes, safety protocols, and best practices to ensure consistency, efficiency, and safety across all activities.
- Co-design, communicate and implement an annual plan for improving H&S performance by proactively identifying and addressing areas of risk in order to develop a long-term strategy.
- Work with key stakeholders and contract managers to ensure personnel comply with Company H&S standards.
- Provide monthly and quarterly reports on H&S related activities, issues and performance against plans.
- Conduct audits, meetings, training, and other activities designed to enhance H&S awareness as prescribed by corporate policies and procedures.
- As needed, hire and supervise safety, training, and occupational health staff.
- Ensure compliance and continuous improvement of all safety and training policies, procedures and programs.
- Prepare and monitor department budget and manage costs.
- Follow up with Ministry of Labour requests.
- Maintain good relations with outside agencies.
- Coordinate emergency response for property.
- Responsible for new hire H&S induction.
- Responsible and accountable for managing security protection which includes being the point of contact and relationship manager with the on-call security company.

Education and Experience
College degree in a health & safety, or training & development program with 15 years’ experience in a directly related field, including 5 years in a supervisory role. CRSP designation, with Supervisory and Underground Common Core training are preferred.
Working Conditions
This position is based in Red Lake, ON. In this role, you will work a 5X2 schedule.
