The Opportunity
Thind is looking for a Site Superintendent to join the team on a permanent, full-time basis. This position will be based initially at one of our sites in Burnaby, and then at our District Northwest site in Surrey. The Site Superintendent will work under the guidance of the Vice President – Construction and senior leadership.
The Role
You will be responsible for the timely completion of assigned projects, ensuring that the project is constructed in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and local codes. You will ensure job site quality control programs are followed to ensure quality completion of construction. Your role will include the following tasks:
- Pre-construction including assisting in review of budget, project, drawings, site plan layout and other tasks as assigned
- Develop and monitor project schedule for labour, equipment, vendors and subcontractors
- Manage work assigned and site logistics to ensure timely project completion
- Champion safety and enforce safe work practices in accordance with the Project Specific Safety Plan and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed
- Communicate with project team regarding ASI’s, RFI’s, Material Submittals, and bring forward any conflicts in construction progress for resolution
- Ensure subcontractors are fully executing and complying with contracted scope of work, including correcting any deficiencies identified by project team, and issuing notices of non-compliance re work quality, scheduling, or safety, health, and environmental quality standards; conduct regular meetings both pre-construction and during the project
- Coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions
- Walk all units on projects daily to monitor activities and assist in future planning
- Maintain daily logs, journals and compliance reports
- Provide feedback and coaching to team members
- Ensure job site is always maintained in a clean and organized manner
- Liaise with various team members at Thind in other departments as relevant to project, including finance and marketing
- May be requested to perform duties at multiple job sites, simultaneously
- Lead by example
- Other functions or activities as may be assigned from time to time
About You
Ideally you bring at least 10 years of real estate construction (high-rise) experience in Canada. You are a positive, self-motivated professional with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Your experience and qualifications include:
- 10 years of experience as a Site Superintendent for high rise construction projects, having taken multiple projects from start through to completion
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Architecture, Building Technology or Construction Management considered an asset
- Trade Certification(s) considered an asset
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and proactively develop ways to overcome challenges
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring and training field teams
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications, Procore, Bluebeam or similar construction management software
