Streetworks Mobile Outreach Worker
0 Hour On Call Position
To provide direct support services within the framework of the StreetWorks program. The needle exchange program aims to reduce the transmission of HIV and other blood-borne infections among people who inject drugs. To engage clients and support them into testing and treatment services. Provide individuals with harm reduction education and supplies.
Responsibilities:
- To adhere to the Mission Statement and Policy and Procedures of Positive Living Niagara.
- To represent Positive Living Niagara in a professional manner
- To promote teamwork both within Positive Living Niagara and when working with partnering Community Support Service Organizations.
- To enhance, augment, expedite and support the positive flow of communications.
- To deliver the StreetWorks Program in accordance with established policies, protocols and procedures.
- To assist with the coordination and delivery of all Positive Living Niagara Programs when necessary.
- Participate in staff and professional development events as required.
- Provide counseling or group support around addiction issues and mental health issues
- Support the peer program within the agency
Duties:
- Conduct evening Mobile Outreach throughout Niagara Region during evening hours
- Distribute harm reduction materials and information, including syringes, as per public health regulations and protocol
- Help people who use substances navigate the social services system
- Provide case management support to clients as necessary
- Provide warm transfer of clients into a variety of treatment and support services
- Offer training on the use of Naloxone
- Ensure proper maintenance and operation of the StreetWorks Van including mileage records, upkeep and inventory control
- Provide verbal and written messages on HIV / AIDS, HCV and STBBI risk reduction
Qualifications
A college or university degree in social or health services with experience in addictions and mental health in the community social services sector, ideally within a harm reduction environment. The incumbent will hold a valid driver’s license with a clear driving record a have access to a reliable vehicle. Experience living with or supporting someone who uses substances and/or HIV/AIDS an asset.

- French language skills an asset
