We’re looking for someone who:
- Is currently studying or has interest in one of the following program areas; Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Care, Recreation and Leisure Services, Ontario College of Teachers programs or other relevant diploma or degree programs
- Has experience in some of the following areas of interest engineering/science, dramatic/visual arts, and sports/physical literacy.
- Has knowledge of a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, active listening, and observing, questioning, demonstrating, and supporting children.
- Can observe children for the purpose of creating learning opportunities that promote development within social, emotional, cognitive, language, sensory and physical domains.
- Has experience working within school age or camp programs and can support every function within the program; this includes field trips, outdoor activities, classrooms, cleaning, and administrative tasks.
- Has experience working with children ages 3.9 to 12 and their families
Every day, you will encourage purposeful play and build upon the interests of children by:
- Creating warm, welcoming interactions that protect the health, security and well-being of children.
- Being culturally sensitive and endeavoring to remove all barriers which prevent acceptance and accessibility for children in the classroom
- Being committed to raising quality care indicators through participating in the Quality First model.
- Using your experience to support inclusion of children with behavioral challenges and differing abilities to foster their development, growth and success in the program and working collaboratively with their parents/caregivers and early childhood specialists.
- Developing and implementing an emergent curriculum applying core concepts of a Reggio inspired philosophy.
- Creating an atmosphere which builds upon individual learning styles, interests, and celebrates the cultural and ethnic diversity of the children and their families
- Maintain accurate daily record keeping of attendance sheets, daily log books, accident reports and illness reports, medical forms, administration of medication forms, emergency procedures and actions and display in classroom as appropriate.
- Setting up program space and supporting children within the program may require lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35lbs
Prior to employment the successful candidate will have:
- Standard First aid/CPR C from a WSIB approved training partner
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen dated within 6 months
- Dated Immunization records for MMR, DTP, Polio and 1 step TB test
- Proof of Vaccination against COVID-19
