Summer Day Camp Assistant

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) is accepting applications for the 8-week summer position (July 1 – August 30) of Summer Day Camp Assistant.

The successful candidate will assist the Conservation Education Coordinator in a variety of tasks relating to Summer Day Camp as well as participating in Healthy Watersheds field work as necessary. The location of the job is at both the ABCA Administrative Centre, at 71108 Morrison Line, 2 kilometres east of Exeter, Ontario and at Rock Glen Conservation Area, at 8680 Rock Glen Rd, Arkona, Ontario.

Duties may include:

• Assisting with the operation of Day Camp, including implementing games, crafts, and outdoor activities with the campers (giving clear instructions, rules, boundaries and resolving disputes).
• Ensuring a safe, fun and inclusive environment for campers, which includes safety procedures.
• Providing supervision during outdoor activities including: water and forest exploration.
• Camper sign-in & sign-out – greeting parents/guardians at the start and end of the day.
• Assisting with Healthy Watersheds field work as necessary when Day Camp is not operating.
• Other tasks as assigned in cooperation with Conservation Education Coordinator.

Qualifications:

• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Knowledge of the natural environment is an asset with ability to work outdoors daily.
• Experience working in camp programming or related child/youth programming experience considered an asset, experience working with children ages 6-12 necessary.
• Team player with strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
• Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada and possess a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence OR have reliable transportation to the locations listed above.

Remuneration: $17.00 per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week with some evenings and weekends
