Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Mill Manager, the Superintendent, Fixed Plant Maintenance will be responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the department’s Fixed Plant section. The incumbent will be accountable for the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of maintenance services for all Fixed Plant equipment for the mill. This is a critical position leading the mill maintenance team, (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control) and implementing maintenance strategies to ensure availability and reliability.

MAGINO MINE:

Argonaut Gold is a Canadian-based gold producer with a portfolio of operations in North America. Focused on becoming a low-cost, mid-tier gold producer, the Company’s newest gold mine, Magino is expected to become Argonaut’s largest and lowest cost mine. Commercial production at Magino has been achieved, which is the first step in transforming the Company as it enters a pivotal growth stage. The Company also has three additional operating mines including the Florida Canyon mine in Nevada, USA, where it is pursuing potential for redevelopment and additional growth, La Colorada mine in Sonora, Mexico and San Agustin mine in Durango, Mexico.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring the safety and health of the Fixed Plant Maintenance team.
  • Adherence to corporate and site-specific standards and statutory legislation as applicable to machinery and related work.
  • Overall maintenance responsibility for all the Magino Fixed Plant equipment assets related to the mill, comprised of crushers, conveyors, mills, screens, pumps, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation.
  • Overall responsibility for operation and maintenance of the Magino power generating facility, consisting of Natural Gas electric generators, utilities connection, and site power distribution.
  • Direction of the maintenance function in accordance with agreed upon maintenance strategies and work management practices, with an emphasis on planned maintenance and schedule execution.
  • Assessing current maintenance strategies, tactics, and plans for Fixed Plant equipment; making recommendations and implementing changes as necessary, implementing industry best practices aligned with reliability centered maintenance, employing RCA and action plans to deliver target equipment availability.
  • Developing annual operating budgets for the maintenance of Fixed Plant equipment, with subsequent budget ownership and responsibility for cost management against targets for the section to ensure cost effectiveness.
  • Leading capital replacement, and overhaul projects for Fixed Plant equipment, including equipment life-cycle analysis, project motivation and execution, and capital budget management.
  • Management of maintenance workshops, facilities, and tools for the section.
  • Personnel management for the section, including hiring, development, and discipline.
  • Providing values-based leadership, guidance and coaching to direct reports and contractor employees, leading by example, building a high-performance culture and team.
  • Managing service agreements and vendors for specialized contracted maintenance services, and accountable for weekly coordination with account managers of key OEM partners.
  • Communicate planned maintenance activities, and estimated return to service dates for down equipment with the mill operations department to ensure the optimum operational performance.
  • Work collaboratively with mill operations department to define and deliver on planned shut-down events, and to implement continuous improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess an interprovincial trade qualification or degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of mill maintenance experience, with minimum 3 years in a senior supervisory role.
  • Expertise in mill and ore processing maintenance.
  • Solid knowledge of OHS requirements.
  • Computer proficiency including with a Computer Maintenance Management System (SAP)
  • Budgeting and expense management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with reliability centred maintenance, and defect elimination programs.
  • Solid organizational, leadership and coaching capabilities.
  • Strong commitment to safety, health, risk management, and environmental standards.
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to maintain motivation of crews.
  • Strong computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometres northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on, 7 days off (12-hour days), or 14 days on, 14 days off (12-hour days).
  • Although there will be an assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours and the work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
  • As a Management position you will be required to manage your time on site effectively in line with the requirements of the job.
