Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, a mine under construction in northern Canada and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, Colombia and Finland. Position
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Superintendent, Open Pit, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all drilling and blasting activities in accordance with mine plans, schedules, and safety protocols;
- Plan and schedule drilling and blasting operations, including blast design, hole layout, and explosive loading, to optimize fragmentation and minimize environmental impact;
- Oversee drill and blast crews at the open pit mine to achieve construction, engineering, and operational goals. Communicate effectively with site teams, contractors, and management about progress and needs;
- Conduct pre-blast inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate safety measures;
- Adhere to construction and project budgets diligently, striving to find the best methods for boosting productivity. Manage employees and contractors effectively while ensuring compliance with contract terms;
- Maintain accurate records of drilling and blasting activities, including production data, equipment maintenance logs, and safety incidents;
- Provide guidance, direction, and training to team members, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and effectively; and
- Ensure that the work site is safe before starting any tasks and actively seek ways to enhance safety practices.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Five (5) years’ experience in drill and blast in surface mining, with a minimum of two (2) years as a lead hand or above with proven experience in conventional drill and blast, truck, and shovel open pit operations;
- WSCC blasting license or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days;
- A Nunavut WSCC Supervisory Level II qualification; and
- Prior experience working with Indigenous groups in a professional capacity.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the annual earnings for the role is $140,000.00
