Support Workers (PT) .6 EFT
Supported Advancement to Independent Living (S.A.I.L)

SAIL Support Workers help youth/young adults gain the skills and confidence to be responsible for their own futures by role modeling and teaching essential life skills for independent living.

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Teaching and role modeling essential life skills for independent living including:
  • Budgeting;
  • Household management (paying bills, cleaning);
  • Meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, safe food handling;
  • Utilizing public transportation;
  • Community resources;
  • Self Care
  • Assisting with achieving educational and/or employment goals, obtaining housing and housing supports, developing safety plans, developing self care strategies, exploring and accessing community resources (including employment programs/training, housing, emergency food) etc.
  • Offering opportunities for engaging and practical learning experiences aligned with the goals and objectives specified in the individual case plan
  • Ongoing assessment and development of youth/young adult’s life skills
  • Cultivating positive connections and rapport with youth/young adults, aiding in the recognition of their strengths to foster personal development, self-esteem, and a feeling of inclusion
  • Producing thorough and accurate documentation including case notes, monthly, financial and other reports
  • Participating in monthly group programming
  • Supporting family and cultural/spiritual connections

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Gr.12, Diploma/degree in Community Support Worker, Child and Youth Care, Addictions and Community Service, or relevant post secondary education such as counselling, social work etc. Other related programs will be considered
  • Respectful of cultural diversity
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous History, culture, practices, customs and beliefs
  • Excellent and proven interpersonal and supportive counselling skills
  • Experience working with at-risk and/or vulnerable youth/young adults
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Valid class 5 Manitoba Drivers license
  • Daily use of a Reliable Vehicle
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software

  • First Aid/CPR would be an asset or training can be arranged upon hire
  • Successful applicants will be subject to provide Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry and Criminal Reference Checks
  • Prior Contact Checks will be completed by Knowles Centre
  • Driver’s Abstract

Salary: $17.64 – $21.50
Schedule: Monday to Friday 12pm to 5pm
Extra hours available. Ability to pick up extra hours is considered an asset
