Job description

  • Full time hybrid role, Monday to Friday.
  • 40 hour week. Hours of work, 8am - 5pm .
  • Calgary or Toronto based.

Role Purpose

The Talent Acquisition Specialist (TAS) will support the continued growth of Metrie by attracting and selecting hourly and salaried top talent for our Manufacturing plants both in Canada and the US. This role will support identifying, sourcing and attracting candidates and be responsible for the entire lifecycle of Talent Acquisition, including progressive integrated recruitment solutions using multiple sources such as direct sourcing, employee referrals, online/digital sourcing and targeted advertising (incl. social media, job boards, industry associations), networking.

Reporting Relationship

The Talent Acquisition Specialist will report to the People and Culture Business Partner for Manufacturing who oversees the delivery of People and Culture programs within the channel.

Location: Calgary or Toronto

This position has an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding, we are open to this role being based at either our Toronto or Calgary Manufacturing plant.

Our Calgary Manufacturing plant is a state of the art 258,000 sqft facility. Both operations run 24/7. Our Toronto Manufacturing plant is a new flagship 250,000 sqft manufacturing mill in Woodbridge, which is now fully operational as of January 2024.

What you'll be doing!

  • Build key relationships and trust with hiring managers to understand their current and future hiring needs, promoting the use of Talent Acquisition strategies;
  • Conduct full-cycle recruitment for hourly and salaried roles to include: sourcing, screening, assessing, interviewing, recommendations, criminal background checks, reference checks, offers, declines and onboarding paperwork;
  • Provide an excellent experience for both hiring manager and candidate;
  • Provide detailed candidate interview notes, personality assessment / cognitive skills testing results, and recommendations of shortlisted candidates;
  • Source and maintain a pipeline of industry qualified candidates through a variety of sourcing channels, and headhunting strategies as needed;
  • Lead with innovation, creativity, and resilience to source exceptional talent in the market;
  • Provide feedback on candidate market challenges, any difficulties faced regarding attracting top talent;
  • Utilize technology to facilitate an efficient and polished hiring process, bring forward ways to streamline our hiring processes if you feel there is a more efficient way;
  • Proactively communicate with your People and Culture Business Partner with recruitment updates and think outside the box to collaborate on solutions to recruitment challenges;
  • Accurately maintain and report on weekly recruitment dashboard and related Talent Acquisition metrics;
  • Provide exceptional customer service in all correspondence with internal and external stakeholders, candidates, people and culture team members;
  • Participate or lead Talent Acquisition projects as required.

Candidate experience and background

  • Minimum 3+ years full cycle recruitment. In-house recruitment experience is preferred with some exposure to agency recruitment;
  • Experience with hourly, high volume and salaried recruitment is required;
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing and operations environment is ideal;
  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in business or human resources management;
  • Thorough knowledge of the entire recruiting life cycle coupled with the ability to conduct thorough interviews and probe candidates as required;
  • Proven experience working in a fast-paced environment and being able to manage time sensitive deadlines efficiently;
  • True passion for Talent Acquisition;
  • Flexible attitude, open-minded, comfortable with fast-pace and change;
  • Strong interpersonal skills - influencing, collaborative and customer centric approach;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong analytical, judgment and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills;
  • Self-starter, keen to roll your sleeves up and take a proactive approach to key issues.
  • A friendly, approachable, and helpful working style, tailoring your communication style to the different stakeholders you are supporting;
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Applicant Tracking Software, PowerPoint;
  • Strong attention to detail in all areas of work.
