Job description

Grow your HR career at one of the most unique workplaces in Calgary with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. We are looking for a full-time permanent Talent Acquisition Specialist (Recruitment) to join our dedicated team of Human Resources (HR) professionals.
Accountable to the Senior HR Business Partner, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will focus on the full cycle recruitment of both large volume seasonal and permanent positions. The Talent Acquisition Specialist is a pivotal role in sourcing, attracting, and recruiting top-tier talent to support the business needs. Participating in the development and implementation of strategic recruitment and retention initiatives is a key function of the role as well as various stages of on-boarding for new hires.

What you will do:
  • Manage all aspects of recruitment, including posting job openings, screening candidates, conducting tests and interviews, verifying references, performing background/security checks, and extending job offers.
  • Develop and implement innovative recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates based on an understanding of business needs.
  • Utilize active/passive sourcing methods, online tools, networking, and market research to enhance recruitment efforts.
  • Work closely with hiring managers to understand staffing needs, develop comprehensive job descriptions, and create recruitment plans tailored to each position.
  • Manage candidate communications and ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process, from initial contact to onboarding.
  • Collaborate with the HR team to ensure new hire documents are received, employee information is updated, and new hires have a smooth onboarding experience.
  • Assist with new employee orientation sessions and recruitment training for people leaders.
  • Participate in the lifecycle of reward and recognition programs, including the annual long service awards, in collaboration with the HR team.
  • Review and evaluate existing tools and technology used in recruitment, making recommendations for upgrades and improvements to support corporate Talent Acquisition needs and strategic growth plans.
  • Provide and present key recruitment performance indicators, such as time to fill, sourcing channels, ROI, and cost per hire, to track the effectiveness of recruitment efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, policies, and standard operating procedures related to recruitment activities.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner at various events, job fairs, and other opportunities to market and source for top talent.
  • Maintain relationships with advertising companies, employment centers, colleges, and online job board representatives.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in handling full cycle recruitment, high-volume recruitment of seasonal and permanent positions
  • Strong understanding of recruitment best practices, including innovative sourcing methods and technology solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with hiring managers and candidates.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and experience in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of legislative requirements and compliance related to recruitment activities.
  • Experience delivering training and coaching to management and staff on recruitment processes, principles, and employment law. J

Working Conditions:
  • Works mainly Monday to Friday days. hours of work may include evening and weekends to different shifts to be available for employees, managers, or special projects (subject to change with reasonable notice)
