The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Smart Farm Operations Supervisor and supporting additional activities under the guidance of the Assistant Manager, the Farm Service Worker will ensure that his/her duties are performed in a safe, effective and efficient manner. Responsibilities will include assisting farm operations in activities such as:
- The care and feeding of livestock and equine
- Activities related to crop production
- Use of technologies and tools to document important production data
- Setting-up and assisting with labs for students and assisting with research project coordination on the farm
General cleaning and minor maintenance of facilities and equipment and all other related duties.
- Support the coordination of Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) projects.
- Assist with general facility and equipment maintenance.
- Assist with calving of cow herd and lambing of sheep flock (and as trained/qualified).
- Complete feeding and bedding requirements daily.
- Maintain production and treatment records.
- Involvement in cropping field operations as required (and as trained/qualified).
- Check and repair existing fences and assist with new fence construction.
- Assist with livestock rotation as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
- High school diploma plus additional coursework.
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience on a farm and crop operation.
- Ability to stand and bend for extended periods of time and lift 50+ lbs.
- Concern and care about the animals general well-being.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- High standards and excellent work ethic.
Conditions of Employment:
- Current Criminal Reference check that is free of any offenses.
- Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies, including wearing CSA approved safety footwear (not supplied) and successfully completing WHMIS certification training (provided).
- Possess a valid Class 5 drivers license and clean drivers’ abstract
- Available to work at times outside of regular office hours and weekends.
